AASP Career Development Award

The NCAA’s Accelerating Academic Success Program strengthens academic achievement and supports graduation at limited-resource Division I institutions. The AASP Career Development Award recognizes student-athletes at AASP-eligible schools who are committed to careers in intercollegiate athletics and invests in their professional growth through immersive NCAA programming and industry networking.

Who's Eligible

  • Enrolled at an AASP-eligible Division I institution
  • Interested in pursuing a career in athletics
  • Completed at least sophomore year
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.80 on a 4.00 scale
  • Eligible for athletics competition
  • Available to attend two NCAA professional development events

How to Nominate

Student-athletes are nominated by their institution’s Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) or designated athletics administrator. Each institution may nominate up to two student-athletes; if nominating two, at least one must be male.

Nomination packet must include:

  • Completed nomination form
  • Official collegiate transcripts
  • Personal statement outlining career goals in athletics
  • Two letters of recommendation
    • Faculty or FAR
    • Athletics staff or external professional reference

Process

  • Nominator submits the student-athlete’s name through the NCAA Program Hub
  • The nominated student-athlete receives an email to complete a profile and upload materials in the Application tab
  • All materials must be submitted by the nominated student-athlete

Student-athletes who believe they qualify should be sure to contact their athletic academic counselor or Faculty Athletics Representative. They can confirm eligibility and help guide you through the nomination process.

Selection Criteria

  • Academic achievement: Strong undergraduate academic record and progress toward degree
  • Athletics engagement: Meaningful participation and contribution to the team experience
  • Leadership and service: Campus or community leadership with a commitment to supporting others
  • Future potential: Clear interest and potential for a career in intercollegiate athletics

Award Details

  • Number of recipients each year: Four
  • What the award provides: Recognition on NCAA.org plus travel and registration support to attend two NCAA professional development events (Career in Sports Forum and the AASP Annual Conference)
  • Renewability: One-time, nonrenewable
