What is Division III?

NCAA’s largest division is where more than 200,000 student-athletes focus on opportunities in school, in sports, and in life. A mix of colleges and universities—about 80% private and 20% public—sponsor an average of 19 sports each, and student-athletes comprise more than 25% of the student body.

How Division III is Governed

Division III is governed democratically, with every member school having an equal vote on policies and procedures. Committees composed of presidents, athletics administrators, coaches, faculty and student-athletes guide the division’s rules, championships and strategic direction.
