Start with the Right Account
The NCAA Eligibility Center uses different account types depending on your grade level, recruiting status, division and academic background. Some students need a certification account to practice, compete or receive athletics aid at an NCAA school. Others may only need a Profile Page account to begin learning about the process.
If you are not sure which account you need, start by reviewing the account options below.
Choose Your Account
Choose this account if you plan to compete at a Division I or Division II school.
You’ll likely need this account if you are:
- Planning to compete at a Division I or II school
- Being recruited by a Division I or II school
- Taking an official visit to a Division I or II school
- A Division I or II walk-on student-athlete
Choose this account if you are an international student-athlete enrolling at a Division III school or a transfer student who only needs athletics certification.
You’ll likely need this account if:
- An NCAA Division I or II athletics compliance office at the institution you plan to attend may confirm that you do not need the academic certification based on your transfer status
Choose this account if you’re still exploring your options or not ready for certification yet.
You’ll likely need this account if you are:
- A domestic Division III prospective student-athlete, transfer or walk-on
- Not yet in high school
- Unsure which division you want to compete in
- Not currently being recruited
You can transition your profile page to a certification account by logging into your profile page and selecting the “transition account” options on the dashboard.
Walk-on and preferred walk-on recruits must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center and meet initial-eligibility standards.
Understanding Your Student Status
You are generally considered a domestic student if you attended high school in the United States, a U.S. territory, a Department of Defense school or an American school abroad from year nine through graduation. Most student-athletes planning to compete at a Division I or II school will register as a domestic student.
You are generally considered an international student if you attended school or studied in another country or educational system after initially enrolling in year nine. Division III student-athletes may also be considered international based on where they attended school, lived or competed.
You may be considered homeschooled if a parent, guardian or tutor creates the curriculum, provides instruction or awards grades and credit. Learning at home through an online or virtual school is not always considered homeschooling for NCAA eligibility purposes.
Before You Create an Account
Have the information below ready before creating your NCAA Eligibility Center account:
Student Information
You will need to provide your name, gender, date of birth, contact information, and address.
Valid email Address
Use an email address you check often and will have access to after high school. The NCAA Eligibility Center uses this email to notify you about account updates. If a sibling has registered, use a different email address.
Education History
List all U.S. and international high schools, secondary schools and programs you attended, even if you did not receive grades or credits. Important note:
- If you attended 9th grade at a junior high school with the same school district as your high school, you do not need to list the junior high separately.
- You can update your graduation or enrollment date at any time by logging in to your account and selecting Grad/Enroll from your dashboard. Your enrollment date should reflect the semester and year you first enroll full time at an NCAA Division I, II or III school.
Sports Participation History
Select each sport you plan to participate in at an NCAA school. Certification accounts will ask for additional information about teams, events, expenses, awards and people who have advised you or marketed your athletic skills.
Payment or Fee Waiver
Both the Academic and Athletics Certification Account and Athletics Certification Account registration is complete once your fee is paid or your fee waiver is requested, if eligible. All fees are nonrefundable after 30 days.
