The NCAA Sport Science Institute promotes the health, safety and well-being of college student-athletes through research, education, policy development and strategic initiatives that address physical and mental health in intercollegiate athletics. The Sport Science Institute postgraduate intern supports projects related to health and safety, mental health, education and student-athlete wellness while collaborating with NCAA staff and member institutions on initiatives that advance the overall well-being of college athletes.

Audience

College graduates with a bachelor’s degree from a four-year NCAA member institution who are interested in sport science, student-athlete wellness, health education or collegiate athletics administration.

Format

A full-time, in-person internship at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis, supporting the Sport Science Institute across health, safety and student-athlete well-being initiatives.

 

Time Commitment

A yearlong program running June 15, 2026 through May 28, 2027. Relocation to Indianapolis is required.

Compensation

Interns are paid hourly at a rate that equates to $33,000 annualized and receive full benefits. Applicants should plan for their own relocation costs to Indianapolis.

Eligibility

      • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year NCAA member institution by the internship start date
      • No prior experience as an NCAA national office intern or employee
      • Legally authorized to work in the United States (international students may apply through Optional Practical Training for F-1 students)
      • Interest in sport science, health education, mental health or student-athlete wellness
      • Strong communication, research, analytical and organizational skills
      • Experience in athletics, health sciences, psychology, education or wellness programming is preferred
