Business Performance interns work alongside analytics professionals to explore data, develop reports and dashboards, and partner with departments across the national office to solve business challenges. Whether analyzing trends, building visualizations or communicating findings, you’ll gain hands on experience using data to improve business performance throughout collegiate athletics.

This internship is ideal for recent graduates pursuing careers in business analytics, data analytics, finance, engineering, computer science, statistics or related fields. Successful candidates are curious, analytical and collaborative problem solvers who enjoy working with data, uncovering insights and helping organizations make informed decisions. If you’re interested in applying technical skills to real world business challenges within collegiate athletics, this internship provides an excellent foundation.

Audience

College graduates with a bachelor’s or graduate degree from a four-year NCAA member institution who are pursuing a career in college sports administration. No prior athletics department experience or sports-specific degree required.

Format

A full-time, in-person internship at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis, with 36 positions across 11 departments. Applicants may select up to three departments of interest in a single application.

Time Commitment

A yearlong program running June 14, 2027 through May 26, 2028. Relocation to Indianapolis is required.

Compensation

Interns are paid hourly at a rate that equates to $33,000 annualized and receive full benefits. Applicants should plan for their own relocation costs to Indianapolis.

Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a four-year NCAA member institution by the internship start date.
  • No prior experience as an NCAA national office intern or employee.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States (international students may apply through Optional Practical Training for F-1 students).
  • No age restriction or sports-specific degree required.
  • Prior athletics department experience and former student-athlete status are not required.
  • Not a current or former NCAA national office intern or employee.

Job Description

Support the NCAA’s Business Performance team by developing reports, analyzing data and delivering insights that improve organizational decision making. Working alongside analytics professionals, you’ll contribute to end to end analytics projects, from data exploration and SQL queries to dashboard development and communicating findings that support business objectives.

Responsibilities

Data Analysis

  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns and actionable insights.
  • Write and maintain SQL queries to extract, transform and analyze data.
  • Support analytics projects from data collection through results communication.

Reporting & Visualization

  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards.
  • Communicate findings through presentations, summaries and data storytelling.
  • Monitor key business metrics and reporting processes.

Business Collaboration

  • Partner with departments across the NCAA to understand business questions.
  • Support continuous improvements to data quality and analytics workflows.
  • Collaborate with team members to enhance reporting and business intelligence capabilities.

What We’re Looking For

Candidates are encouraged to possess many of the following skills and experiences:

  • Experience with SQL and relational databases
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI or similar visualization tools
  • Analytical thinking and problem solving
  • Basic understanding of statistics
  • Exposure to Python or other analytical tools preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn
  • Ability to collaborate across teams while managing multiple priorities
