The Pathway Program is designed to elevate senior-level athletics administrators to the next step as directors of athletics or conference commissioners. This yearlong leadership development program is an intensive, experiential learning opportunity for selected learners who work at an NCAA school or conference in any division.

During the yearlong program, participants examine how values shape leadership philosophy and execution within college athletics and higher education. The curriculum builds practical knowledge in budgeting, strategic planning and fundraising to support both current responsibilities and future roles as directors of athletics.

Applicants must submit a completed application along with a letter of recommendation from their current athletics director or conference commissioner.

Audience

Full-time employees at an NCAA member school or conference.

Format

The Pathway Program begins with a weeklong kickoff session featuring prominent guests, subject matter experts and a highly engaging curriculum. Throughout the year, division-specific programming includes governance meetings, media and interview training, and site visits that provide insight into organizational leadership

Time Commitment

This kickoff is a four-day event, followed by division-specific requirements. In addition to in-person programming, each participant is paired with a presidential mentor and a director of athletics mentor for ongoing guidance and professional development. The program concludes with participant recognition at the annual NACDA convention luncheon.

Cost

Travel and transportation to and from all in-person programming will be the responsibility of the learner. The NCAA will provide hotel accommodations, meals during program sessions, and all required materials. Learners will also receive an honorarium to support professional development opportunities and mentor visits.
