The NCAA is committed to helping Division II student-athletes complete their undergraduate education, even after their athletics eligibility has been exhausted. The Division II Degree Completion Award Program provides financial assistance to former student-athletes who return to campus to finish their degrees. Student-athletes who believe they meet the eligibility requirements should contact their NCAA compliance administrator or Faculty Athletics Representative. These individuals can verify eligibility and provide guidance throughout the nomination process.

Who's Eligible?

Former Division II student-athletes who have exhausted athletics eligibility and are within 40 semester hours (or equivalent) of earning their first undergraduate degree.

Note: A waiver approved for the 2027-28 academic year allows student-athletes certified under the age-based eligibility model to be considered, provided they meet all other award requirements. Institutions nominate eligible student-athletes through Program Hub, where nominees complete their applications.

How to Apply

Student-athletes who believe they qualify should be sure to contact their NCAA compliance administrator or Faculty Athletics Representative. They can confirm eligibility and help guide you through the nomination process.

Required Materials

Completed application, a transcript (official or unofficial) from their most recent institution, and a personal statement. A verification form must also be completed by compliance, an academic advisor and financial aid. In addition, two endorsements are required: one from a faculty member within the student’s major and one from institutional leadership (e.g., athletics director, senior woman administrator, faculty athletics representative or coach).

Selection Criteria

Selection is based on academic record, financial need, service and character, reflected through contributions as a student-athlete; and a clear completion plan outlining the feasibility of finishing coursework within the award period.
