The NCAA is committed to helping Division II student-athletes complete their undergraduate education, even after their athletics eligibility has been exhausted. The Division II Degree Completion Award Program provides financial assistance to former student-athletes who return to campus to finish their degrees.
Former NCAA Division II student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and are no longer receiving athletics aid, are within 40 semester hours (or equivalent) of completing their first undergraduate degree, were in good academic standing prior to leaving school, and demonstrate strong character, leadership and service.
Student-athletes who believe they qualify should be sure to contact their NCAA compliance administrator or Faculty Athletics Representative. They can confirm eligibility and help guide you through the nomination process.
Completed application, a transcript (official or unofficial) from their most recent institution, and a personal statement. A verification form must also be completed by compliance, an academic advisor and financial aid. In addition, two endorsements are required: one from a faculty member within the student’s major and one from institutional leadership (e.g., athletics director, senior woman administrator, faculty athletics representative or coach).
Selection is based on academic record, financial need, service and character, reflected through contributions as a student-athlete; and a clear completion plan outlining the feasibility of finishing coursework within the award period.
