Division II FAR Resources and Education
Faculty athletics representatives (FARs) serve an important role in supporting the Division II student athlete experience and connecting athletics with the broader educational mission of their institution. Explore the role and responsibilities of a Division II FAR, along with education, professional development opportunities and resources to support FARs in their work.
The Role of a Division II Faculty Athletics Representative
Faculty athletics representatives work with institutional leaders, athletics administrators, faculty, student-athletes, conferences and the NCAA to help support the educational mission of college athletics. While the specific responsibilities of an FAR may vary by institution, the Division II FAR role generally focuses on supporting the student-athlete experience, promoting academic integrity and helping maintain institutional control. FARs also serve as independent advocates for student-athletes, assist in oversight of athletics programs at the campus and conference levels, and help promote the Division II philosophy of “Life in the Balance” throughout their institutions and communities.
Serve as an independent advocate for student-athletes while helping promote success in academics, athletics and life.

Work with institutional leaders and campus partners to support compliance, communication and appropriate oversight of the athletics program.
Division II FAR Connection Program
Faculty Athletics Representatives bridge academics and athletics. Through the Division II Connection Program, FARs collaborate with NCAA staff and administrators to advocate for academic integrity, eligibility rules, and student-athlete well-being, ensuring Division II athletes thrive on and off the field.
Faculty Athletics Representatives focus on:
- Educating peers on Division II governance and priorities.
- Providing input on eligibility, transfer, and academic policy.
- Strengthening the academic voice in NCAA Division II decision-making.
Division II FAR Institutes
The NCAA Division II Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Institutes provide leadership development opportunities for FARs at different stages of professional growth. Each year, Division II offers either the FAR Fellows Institute or the FAR Advanced Leadership Institute, based on the needs of the Division II membership and the continued development of the FAR community. The Fellows Institute helps experienced FARs strengthen their leadership skills, expand their professional networks and enhance their impact on student-athlete success and institutional governance, while the Advanced Leadership Institute offers past Fellows an opportunity to further develop their leadership capabilities, elevate the FAR role and contribute resources and best practices that support the Division II membership.
