The NCAA Sports Sponsorship and Participation Rates Report provides statistical information regarding participation and sponsorship in intercollegiate athletics at NCAA member institutions. This information provides a general view of historical trends in participation and sponsorship by gender, sport and division. Much of this information has been collected in detail since the 1981-82 academic year. This information is self-reported retroactively by all NCAA member institutions on an annual basis.
As shown in the NCAA Sports Sponsorship and Participation Rates Database, there were 523,662 NCAA participants in championship sports during the 2022-23 academic year. That total is an all-time high for the NCAA and marks a near 3,000 spike from the previous year.
The resources below include projected numbers for the 2023-24 membership and sport sponsorship. Actual numbers may change.
