The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel last week approved the hiring of David Seidman as the NCAA secretary-rules editor for men's lacrosse. Seidman begins an eight-year term Sept. 1, 2026.

Seidman will work with the current secretary-rules editor, Willie Scroggs, whose term expires in August 2026, to help ensure a smooth transition.
"Willie Scroggs has guided the rules book, and the game, to a great place," Seidman said. "I'm excited to work with Willie, Tom Abbott (the national coordinator of officials for men's lacrosse) and the rules committee to continue to frame and state the committee's intentions in a way that is clear, complete, understandable and enforceable."
From 1987-2018, Seidman officiated NCAA men's lacrosse games. He was assigned to work a combined 45 postseason games in all three divisions.
Since 2019, Seidman has worked as an NCAA men's lacrosse observer, conducting evaluations of men's lacrosse officials nationwide.
Seidman has contributed to men's lacrosse at other levels of play, as well.
He was a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations Boys Lacrosse Rules Committee (2010-24) and has worked as a consultant to the committee since 2024.
Seidman also served as the USA Lacrosse Boys Lacrosse Rules Committee chair from 2015 to 2023, the USA Lacrosse Men's Officials Training Committee chair from 2004 to 2010 and the USA Lacrosse national head clinician from 2004 to 2010.
Through his experiences, Seidman has developed training materials and policy recommendations, created the USA Lacrosse Convention's first educational program for men's officials, presented annual collegiate and scholastic clinicians training sessions, and administered the National Lacrosse Referee Development Program and annual training camps for officials.
