Cline replaces George M. Drouches, who will be stepping down after spending 11 years as the NCAA national coordinator of baseball umpires. Cline will begin his new role Sept. 1.
In addition to his four MCWS assignments, Cline has worked the NCAA Division I super regionals 10 times and was selected to the NCAA Division I regionals 20 times. He has had more than 26 years of officiating experience as a college baseball umpire in several conferences, including being crew chief for games in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten Conference and Southeastern Conference, as well as other conferences. He has been selected as an umpire for 13 SEC tournaments, six Ohio Valley Conference tournaments, four Sun Belt Conference tournaments, one ACC tournament and one Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament.
As NCAA national coordinator of baseball umpires, Cline will be responsible for managing the activities of the NCAA Baseball Umpire Program. Additionally, the national coordinator assists the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee in the identification, training, selection and evaluation of umpires for the Division I Baseball Championship.
"Scott Cline distinguished himself during the national search and has a proven track record of success as an elite umpire for more than 20 years, including as crew chief at the 2024 Men's College World Series," said Randy L. Buhr, NCAA director of championships and alliances and staff liaison with the NCAA Baseball Umpire Program. "Scott has earned the respect of fellow umpires, baseball coaches and athletics administrators and will provide leadership to the NCAA Baseball Umpire Program, building on the great job that George Drouches has done. I am excited for the unique perspective Scott will bring to this role."
