Statement from Dan Gavitt on the passing of former men’s basketball coordinator of officiating John Adams

John Adams

"On behalf of members of the Division I Men's Basketball Committee and NCAA staff who were fortunate to work with John Adams, we would like to express our sympathy to his family, friends, and colleagues on John's passing. John was an accomplished official at the high school level and across all three divisions of the NCAA, and his reputation as an expert evaluator and his knowledge of the game's playing rules led to him being selected as the national coordinator of officiating in 2008. He held that position for seven years, during which he played an integral role in ensuring officials were provided with clear interpretation of playing rules and officiating mechanics that contributed to the overall growth of the game and March Madness. Our condolences go out to his wife, Mary Beth, their four sons and their grandchildren."
