Missouri volleyball's Brynn Carlson was named chair of the Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in its executive board election. Yale women's golf captain Ami Gianchandani and Canisius distance runner Turner Dirrigl were named vice chairs to round out the committee's executive board, which begins its one-year term June 1.
As chair of Division I SAAC, Carlson will now serve and hold a vote on the Division I Board of Directors. A graduate student at Missouri, Carlson served the past year as vice chair on Division I SAAC. She also has served on the Division I Council, Division I Committee on Academics and the NCAA Standardized Test Score Task Force since joining Division I SAAC. A former volleyball player at Kansas State, Carlson started serving on Division I SAAC as the Big 12 Conference's representative in 2020. She was recently nominated by the Southeastern Conference to serve as its representative on Division I SAAC for an additional year.
"It is an honor and privilege to be trusted to serve DI SAAC as the chair for this upcoming term," Carlson said. "I am excited to navigate the ever-changing landscape of college athletics with Ami and Turner on the executive team. They are both experienced, passionate leaders, and I could not be more excited to work with them. With their help, I look forward to advancing the student-athlete voice and improving the student-athlete experience during this pivotal time of transformation in our division."
Gianchandani and Dirrigl, also with one year remaining on Division I SAAC, will both serve on the Division I Council as part of their vice chair roles. Each will have a vote on the Council.
Gianchandani joined Division I SAAC in 2020 as the Ivy League's representative. She also has served on the Board of Governors Student-Athlete Engagement Committee and the Committee on Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct.
Dirrigl, since joining Division I SAAC as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's representative in 2020, also has served on the Division I Student-Athlete Experience Committee and the Olympic Sports Liaison Committee.
