Division III Sportsmanship

Gameday the DIII Way is an innovative and unique approach designed to achieve better fan decorum at athletics events around the country. The program was created by the Division III Sportsmanship and Game Environment Working Group, in conjunction with the Disney Institute, with the goal of improving the behavior of parents and fans and ensuring that all Division III student-athletes have a rewarding experience. Through the program, Division III institutions will be assisted in providing exceptional levels of guest service and event expectations that are consistent throughout the membership.

How Gameday the DIII Way Works

Gameday the DIII Way provides Division III institutions and conferences with tools and training designed to create respectful, engaging and safe athletics environments. Through in-person training sessions, educational resources and campus collaboration, the program helps institutions establish consistent expectations for fan behavior, guest services and event management.

The initiative emphasizes:

  • Respectful game environments.
  • Positive fan and parent engagement.
  • Student-athlete well-being.
  • Consistent event expectations across Division III.
  • Collaboration between athletics staff, campus safety and event personnel.

Institutions can participate through:

  1. In-person staff training sessions.
  2. Online education modules through MyApps.
  3. Campus self-evaluation tools.
  4. Promotional and communication resources.
  5. Partnerships with trained facilitators and campus leaders.

Gameday the DIII Way – Trained Facilitators

The following individuals have been trained by the Disney Institute to facilitate the Gameday the DIII Way program for your campus or conference.  Feel free to reach out to a facilitator in your area and request a training session for your event staff.  Each in-person training session lasts 90 minutes.  The facilitators will work with you on securing a mutually agreed upon date and time for the training session. The facilitator will need to know the total number of training participants at least 30 days in advance of the training in order to secure the proper training materials needed for the session.
