Highly accomplished college football referee Ron Snodgrass has been hired to serve as the national coordinator of officials, effective Sept. 1. Snodgrass has officiated Division I football the past 26 seasons and achieved numerous postseason assignments, including the College Football Playoff.

“We are pleased to announce Ron’s appointment to this important leadership role in college football,” said Jon Steinbrecher, chair of the Board of Managers of College Football Officiating and commissioner of the Mid-American Conference. “Ron’s skill set and proven ability as a collaborative leader is impressive, and we look forward to working closely with him to manage officiating elements nationally.”

Snodgrass steps into the position vacated by Steve Shaw, who served as national coordinator of officials since 2020.

Jim Phillips, Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner, led the national search as chair of the selection committee and noted the breadth of Snodgrass’ experience as unique.

“Throughout the search process, Ron distinguished himself through the credibility he has earned on the field and his proven ability to teach, develop and lead others,” Phillips said. “He understands the demands of officiating at the highest level and has a clear vision for developing officials and strengthening consistency across college football.”

“I am truly honored and humbled to take this step in my officiating career,” Snodgrass said. “This is a unique opportunity to impact and contribute to the sport and my fellow officials. I look forward to working with the conference commissioners, coordinators of officials and administrators to find ways to improve the management of college football. I’m excited to get started and lead the next chapter of our sport.”

Snodgrass holds a doctorate in educational leadership and policy analysis from Missouri and several degrees from Missouri State, his undergraduate alma mater. His resume shows a proven background in rules interpretation, crew leadership, development of officials, training, evaluation, stakeholder communication and high-pressure game administration. He has more than four decades of experience in a variety of roles in education, mostly with Springfield Public Schools in Missouri.
