Joe Ambrose, who has been a Professional Bowlers Association member for more than four decades, will be the next secretary-rules editor and national coordinator of officials for women’s bowling, effective Sept. 1, 2027.

He will succeed Michael Fine, whose term as secretary-rules editor is expiring Aug. 31, 2027.

Ambrose’s experience in the sport includes starting two NCAA women’s bowling programs from scratch. From 2007-19, Ambrose was the head coach at Kutztown. After building the Kutztown program, Ambrose worked as the first head bowling coach at Wagner (2019-23).

Ambrose also served on the NCAA Women’s Bowling Committee from 2011-14.

Besides his extensive career in bowling, Ambrose also has wide-ranging experience in golf that includes 24 years as a PGA professional that includes being an instructor and club professional.

Currently, Ambrose works as the golf services supervisor at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

“I have big shoes to fill following the only other two who have held this position in Ron Holmes and Mike Fine,” Ambrose said. “NCAA bowling has only existed since 2004, and I have been involved with it since 2007. I believe my experience as a two-sport professional, running events in both sports, and my career as a head official, event manager and rules official for the PGA and USGA will really help me to do this job to the best of my ability. I look forward to this opportunity, and I am very grateful to the NCAA for trusting me with it.”
