Help answer some of the most important questions in college athletics through research, data analysis and evidence-based decision making. Research postgraduate interns work alongside an interdisciplinary team to design surveys, analyze data, create visualizations and communicate findings that inform NCAA policy and enhance the student-athlete experience. Whether contributing to independent projects or collaborating across departments, you’ll gain hands-on experience applying research to real-world challenges facing collegiate athletics.
Is this Internship Right for You?
This internship is ideal for recent graduates pursuing careers in research, data analytics, public policy, higher education, public health, psychology, sociology, sport management or other social science disciplines. Successful candidates are curious, analytical and collaborative thinkers who enjoy solving complex problems, interpreting data and communicating research findings to a variety of audiences. Experience with quantitative research methods, survey design and statistical analysis is preferred.
College graduates with a bachelor’s or graduate degree from a four-year NCAA member institution who are pursuing a career in applied social science research or college sports administration. No prior athletics department experience or sports-specific degree required.
A full-time, in-person internship at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis, with 45 positions across 12 departments. Applicants may select up to three departments of interest in a single application.
A yearlong program running June 14, 2027 through May 26, 2028. Relocation to Indianapolis is required.
Interns are paid hourly at a rate that equates to $33,000 annualized and receive full benefits. Applicants should plan for their own relocation costs to Indianapolis.
Eligibility
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph. D. degree from a four-year NCAA member institution by the internship start date.
- No prior experience as an NCAA national office intern or employee.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States (international students may apply through Optional Practical Training for F-1 students).
- No age restriction or sports-specific degree required.
- Prior athletics department experience and former student-athlete status are not required.
- Not a current or former NCAA national office intern or employee.

Responsibilities
Research & Data Analysis
- Contribute to the design, analysis and reporting of NCAA research projects.
- Analyze data related to the student-athlete experience, demographics, participation and sports sponsorship.
- Support research initiatives that inform NCAA policy and decision making.
Survey Design & Visualization
- Assist with survey development and data collection.
- Research opportunities to improve data gathering, analysis and visualization.
- Create visualizations and reports that communicate research findings clearly and effectively.
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with NCAA departments and external partners on research initiatives.
- Assist with membership-facing research presentations and communications.
- Support team-level, independent and cross functional research projects as assigned.
