Additions would bring division’s membership total to 296 schools in 2026-27

Six schools — the University of Jamestown, Point Park, Roosevelt, Sul Ross State, UT Dallas and the University of California, Merced — are set to become NCAA Division II members Sept. 1 after completing the provisional membership process.

Point Park, Roosevelt, UC Merced and Jamestown are transitioning from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Sul Ross State and UT Dallas are transitioning from Division III.

The Division II Membership Committee this week approved the moves, which would bring the Division II membership total to 296 schools in 2026-27.

Schools in the three-year membership process:

  • Menlo advanced to the third year of the process.
  • Middle Georgia State University advanced to the second year of the process.
  • Texas A&M-Texarkana (NAIA) was accepted into the process and will be joining the Lone Star Conference.

Schools in the expedited membership process:

  • Ferrum advanced to the second year.
  • Shawnee State (NAIA) was accepted into the expedited process during the committee’s February meeting.

The Division II Management Council will review all membership decisions during its meeting July 20-21. Changes will take effect Sept. 1.
