Student-athletes like you are now taking advantage of opportunities using your names, images and likenesses. You are working with businesses across industries and staff on each of your campuses as your NIL opportunities are exploring unchartered territory in college sports. This is an important change that improves the student-athlete experience.
Â
The national office and member schools and conferences will continue working with Congress to develop a clear solution that works for the entire country. You deserve more clarity than the current system allows, with so many state laws that take different approaches to NIL.
Recently, the Division I Board of Directors directed the Division I Council to develop NIL proposals to improve the environment for student-athletes. This was at the request of our Division I Council Working Group on Name, Image and Likeness, which includes two dozen administrators and 10 Division I student-athletes with firsthand experience in NIL activity.Â
During those meetings, the working group solicited feedback on several topics, including transparency measures, the recruiting environment surrounding NIL and the role NCAA schools should play in student-athletes' NIL activities.
Your voice is represented at the table and your voice is being heard.
