360 Proof

360 Proof is a comprehensive, evidence-based program that helps institutions reduce the consequences of high-risk alcohol use and enhance collaboration between athletics and other campus departments focused on student well-being.

Eight Step Prevention ProcessThe backbone of 360 Proof is an eight-step prevention process essential to reducing high-risk alcohol use and consequences. While you may use the program resources in any order that suits your campus, the eight-step process provides a roadmap to schools seeking specific guidance.

Prevention Tool Shortcuts. Completion of all eight steps will engage the full campus in a comprehensive high risk alcohol use prevention plan. However, if an institution only wants to use select components of the program, there are elements that are useful on their own.

  1. Campus Self Study: Creating a healthy campus starts with having a clear picture of the current campus environment. The Campus Self Study will help institutions assess specific alcohol issues, behavioral trends, successes and gaps in your current prevention efforts.
  2. NIAAA Recommended Strategies: The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) has been instrumental in compiling research evidence for college alcohol prevention, targeting both individual students and your campus environment. Learn which strategies have research evidence supporting their effectiveness and choose the ones that are right for your campus.
  3. Personalized Feedback Index (PFI): This confidential tool, accessible from any web-enabled device (e.g., phone, computer, tablet), allows students to uncover and examine the impact and consequences of their alcohol-related behavior. It also offers practical strategies for reducing the negative consequences of high-risk alcohol use.  Data show that use of the PFI positively impacts alcohol behavior.  A school administrator must set up the tool before providing the link to students. The tool is a stand-alone app, within MyApps on ncaa.org, called “360 Proof PFI”.

Coaches Modules. Coaches have the attention of student-athletes and can significantly influence their decisions, including their alcohol-related behavior. The Coaches’ Modules are designed to equip coaches with deeper insight into alcohol use and consequences. In addition, coaches receive strategies for communicating with student-athletes in a conversational manner that engenders trust, confidence and accountability.  Go to the NCAA Learning Portal in MyApps to access the modules.
