NCAA Board of Governors Policy on Campus Sexual Violence

Adopted Aug. 8, 2017, Revised Aug. 7, 2018, April 30, 2020, April 27, 2021, April 25, 2024

The NCAA is a voluntary membership organization dedicated to promoting academics, well-being and fairness among the 1,100 member schools and more than 500,000 student-athletes who participate in college sports. Sexual discrimination, sexual harassment and sexual and interpersonal violence violate human decency and the Association's core values.

The NCAA Board of Governors adopted the Policy on Campus Sexual Violence (NCAA policy) in August 2017. Beginning in the 2017-18 academic year, NCAA schools have annually attested their compliance with the NCAA policy. The attestation deadline is in the first Friday of November each year. For more information on the attestation deadlines and timing, please visit the attestations page.

If a school is not able to attest its compliance with the NCAA policy, it will be fined $5,000 (to be distributed to a divisional identified philanthropic organization focusing efforts on campus sexual violence prevention) and listed on the NCAA website following the Board of Governors annual review. If a school submits its attestation form after the original prescribed deadline, the school will be listed on the NCAA website following the Board of Governors annual review as attesting late.
