Gosney replaces Scott Cline, who was named in March as the incoming national coordinator but recently became the coordinator of umpires for the Atlantic Coast Conference. The current national coordinator, George Drouches, who spent 11 years in the job, will step down at the end of August. Gosney will begin his new role Sept. 1.

In addition to his 2025 assignment, Gosney worked the super regionals four times and the regionals seven times. He has more than 19 years of umpiring experience in professional and college baseball. During his time in college baseball, Gosney umpired in the ACC and the Southeastern Conference.

As NCAA national coordinator of baseball umpires, Gosney will be responsible for managing the activities of the NCAA Baseball Umpire Program. Additionally, the national coordinator assists the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee in the identification, training, selection and evaluation of umpires for the Division I Baseball Championship.

"Jeff Gosney distinguished himself during the search process and has a proven track record of success as an elite umpire," said Randy L. Buhr, NCAA director of championships and alliances and staff liaison for the NCAA Baseball Umpire Program. "Jeff has earned the respect of fellow umpires, baseball coaches, and athletics administrators and will provide leadership to the NCAA Baseball Umpire Program, building on the great job that George Drouches has done. I am excited for the unique perspective Jeff will bring to this role."
