Directors of Athletics --- Derek van der Merwe, who has served as Austin Peay’s athletics director for the past year and a half, will step down from that post after being named the university's vice president for advancement, communication and strategic initiatives. Current Senior Woman Administrator Cheryl Holt will serve as interim athletics director throughout the search process. van der Merwe has spent nearly 18 years as an athletics administrator, the last 18 months as APSU's athletics director after serving the previous 16 years at Central Michigan, his alma mater … Bradley welcomed Peoria native Chris Reynolds as its 10th director of athletics. His responsibilities will include supervising operations, athletic performance, NCAA compliance, communications and fundraising for Bradley's 15 athletic programs, while serving as a liaison between the athletic department and other units of the university. He also will serve as a member of the President’s cabinet. Reynolds attended Indiana where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1993, a law degree in 1996, and a Ph.D. in 2012. He has a strong collegiate basketball background as well. As an undergraduate, he was a four-year letterwinner and team captain in his senior year. Reynolds helped lead the Hoosiers to Big Ten titles in 1991 and 1993 as well as the 1992 Final Four. Reynolds has served as deputy director of athletics and recreation, operations at Northwestern since 2012 with direct responsibility for the planning and management of recreation, equipment operations, and the facilities and event management units; supervised all facets of planning, design, and construction of athletic capital facilities; and managed a diverse array of external relationships including serving as a representative to the City of Evanston … University of the Sciences has named Marc Caserio athletic director. Caserio joined USciences in 2003, serving as a director of campus recreation from 2007 to 2014. In his tenure as interim athletic director, Caserio began a spirit committee to increase campus support for Devils home games. Caserio will oversee a department that features 12 Division II teams that compete in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference … Kelli Lindley, who guided the Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team to five NCAA Division II national tournament berths (2003, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2013) and compiled a 202-131 record during 12 seasons as head women's basketball coach, was introduced as the new director of athletics. Lindley stepped down from her position as head women's basketball coach following the 2012-13 season to become the Crusaders' associated athletic director and NCAA compliance officer. She began that role in the summer of 2013. This past December, following the resignation of Bill Rapp as director of athletics, Lindley took on the task of serving NNU as acting director of athletics during the search to fill Rapp's vacant position … Fayetteville State Athletic Director Edward McLean confirmed that he'll retire in August after eight years on the job. The sixth athletic director since 1989 for the NCAA Division II school, McLean was essentially returning home in December 2006 when he was selected from a list of eight candidates to lead the FSU program. McLean came to FSU from another Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association school, Elizabeth City State, where he had worked as athletic director for 13 years. He was honored last May by the CIAA for 20 straight years of service to the league.
In eight years at Fayetteville State, McLean directed an athletic program that won 14 CIAA championships, including the 2009 football title and 2010 women's basketball tournament … Joe Parker, a proven athletics administrator with experience at some of the nation's finest collegiate programs, is the new athletics director at Colorado State. Parker, who has been the deputy athletics director at Texas Tech since 2011, also has served as senior associate A.D. at Michigan, , Oklahoma, Washington State and Texas. Parker was introduced at an on-campus press conference and will begin his duties at Colorado State April 6. During Parker's time as deputy A.D. at Texas Tech he oversaw a Big 12 Conference program with 17 teams and an annual budget of $68.5 million. Under Parker's leadership, the university achieved first-ever sellouts for football season tickets and broke attendance records in football, men's basketball and baseball. In addition, Parker has been involved in all Title IX and Gender Equity issues at Texas Tech. During his tenure as deputy A.D., Parker also led programs to boost the classroom success of student-athletes and led the development and recent launch of a current $185 million fundraising campaign … Bob Segave, the highly successful women’s basketball coach at Roberts Wesleyan, was named the college’s new athletic director … Kim Blum was named director of athletics at Wisconsin-La Crosse. Blum had served as the university's interim director of athletics since July 2014. Blum is in her 11th year at UW-La Crosse, previously serving as deputy director of athletics in 2013-14. Prior to that, she was associate athletic director from 2004-13. As interim director of athletics, Blum has served as executive director of the L-Club, the intercollegiate athletics department fundraising organization. She directly supervises and evaluates the department's deputy director, assistant director, head athletic trainer, administrative assistant, camp director, and 14 head coaches. Blum has been involved in all aspects of the UW-La Crosse intercollegiate athletics program as deputy director and interim director of athletics, including strategic planning, personnel, facilities, and resource development …Bill Peterson is stepping down as Shorter’s director of athletics. Senior Associate Athletic Director Matt Green will assume interim athletic director duties. Peterson's departure marks the close of a tenure that included countless team and individual national championships, hundreds of All-American, all-Academic and all-Conference honors, the growth of the athletic department to 21 varsity programs and nearly 600 student-athletes and, most notably, the successful transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II membership … After serving eight years at the helm of the Anderson athletics program, Nancy Simpson has announced that she will be stepping down as director of athletics, for family and personal reasons. During her tenure, Simpson guided Anderson’s seamless transition into the South Atlantic … Willamette selected Valerie Cleary to serve as its next director of athletics. Cleary has worked as the senior associate athletics director and Senior Woman Administrator at Portland State since September of 2013 and was PSU's interim athletics director for several months. She will begin working at Willamette in late April. Cleary has a significant range of experience, including senior administrative service in athletics at Portland State, admissions work at Pacific and direction of student-athlete enhancement programs at Boise State … UMass announced that Ryan Bamford has been named the school’s director of athletics. Bamford becomes the seventh permanent director of athletics at UMass after spending the previous four years at Georgia Tech, including the last two as senior associate AD. At Georgia Tech, Bamford was promoted to senior associate AD in June 2013 after beginning his time with the Yellow Jackets as associate AD in 2011. From August 2013-September 2014, Bamford oversaw internal and external operations. With Georgia Tech, he handled all operational aspects for football, baseball, and men's basketball while also overseeing sports medicine, player performance, facilities, equipment and game operations.
Associate Athletics Directors -- Blayne Beal, Texas Tech’s lead athletic department spokesman and a 15-year employee of the university, announced his resignation. He returned from Tennessee to Texas Tech in 2000 to work in the sports information department. In 2010, he was promoted to associate athletic director and the primary publicist for football … North Carolina Senior Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator Beth Miller announced that she will retire from the university on July 1. Miller has spent the majority of her career in college athletics, serving in various roles including head volleyball coach, softball coach, business manager, assistant and associate athletic director and Senior Woman Administrator. She is in her 31st year supervising North Carolina’s highly successful Olympic Sports program and has been the department’s SWA since 1981, and the senior associate director of athletics since 1995. Miller is currently the primary administrator for 13 Tar Heel programs: men's and women's cross country, men's and women's fencing, women's golf, gymnastics, rowing, men's soccer, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field and volleyball.
Directors of development -- Jeff Giles was named the director of development for Wright State athletics. Giles will spearhead fundraising and development activities for the Raiders. He will oversee all aspects of the department’s fundraising operation, including annual giving, planned giving, major gifts and special events. Giles has spent his career in the private sector, primarily in sales and account management roles. He boasts experience with multiple global companies, including American Express.
Conferences
Vice presidents – The Eastern College Athletic Conference announced that Vice President for External Affairs Drew Brown has been elevated to senior vice president and chief of staff. In his new role, he will continue to have oversight of all external affairs while assuming additional responsibility in planning and directing all administrative, financial, and operational activities of the organization. Brown will be responsible for helping the ECAC achieve strategic goals and objectives, and increase operating performance.
Coaches
Men’s Basketball -- Gene Ford, a Muskingum alumnus, announced his retirement after seven years as the school’s head men's basketball coach. His announcement concludes a storied coaching career that spanned 38 years. A member of the Muskingum Athletic Hall of Fame, Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Hall of Fame, Ford coached four 1,000-point scorers at Muskingum, numerous All-Ohio Athletic Conference honorees and has led the Muskies to the OAC Tournament Final Four. … Holy Cross named Bill Carmody as its new head men’s basketball coach. Carmody becomes the 17th head coach in the history of the program and has 32 years of Division I coaching experience, including 17 seasons as a head coach. From 2000-2013, Carmody served as the head coach at Northwestern. In the four years from 2008-2012, he guided the Wildcats to four consecutive winning seasons, with his 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 teams both recording a school record 20 victories. Carmody, who previously spent four seasons as the head coach at Princeton from 1996-2000, had led his teams to eight postseason tournament appearances – two trips to the NCAA Tournament and six trips to the National Invitation Tournament. In addition, he was selected as the Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year in 2003-2004.
Women’s Soccer -- Saint Mary’s named Travis Clarke as the sixth women’s soccer head coach in the program’s 28-year NCAA Division I history. Clarke recently concluded his sixth season as the head coach at Cal State San Bernardino, where he led the Coyotes to a 63-40-13 record and a 46-34-10 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Under Clarke’s guidance, CSUSB registered six straight winning seasons and, in 2013, advanced to the NCAA Division I West Regional finals.

Directors of Athletics -- Don Faulstick, Amherst interim director of athletics, has been selected to resume his current responsibilities and has been named the college’s director of athletics. As Amherst’s director of athletics, he will lead the nation’s oldest intercollegiate athletic program. Amherst’s 27 sport teams compete in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Since his arrival on campus 18 years ago, Faulstick has served in multiple capacities, including an associate director of athletics role as well as assistant football coach … Coastal Carolina hired Matt Hogue as director of athletics. Hogue has been serving as the interim director of athletics for the past year. Almost 18 years ago, Hogue was hired by Coastal to serve as both a play-by-play announcer and as an assistant media relations director. During 12 years in athletics, he sold sponsorships, worked on marketing projects and even dabbled in ticket sales … Tufts named John G. Morris, currently interim director of athletics at Colorado State, as its next director of athletics. At Tufts, Morris will lead a comprehensive athletics, physical education and recreation program that has earned six NCAA Division III championships in the last five years. Morris joined CSU as deputy director of athletics in 2012 and was promoted to interim director in 2014. In these roles, he effectively led initiatives to ensure student-athlete academic success, managed a $32 million athletic budget and launched new marketing strategies, capital projects and diversity and inclusion initiatives. Prior to CSU, he was the senior associate director of athletics at the University of Washington for eight years. Morris' background also includes working as an attorney at a large private law firm, as an instructor in a graduate school program and as an administrator at the NCAA … Following a national search Appalachian State has named Douglas Gillin director of athletics. Gillin has been deputy athletics director at Missouri since 2012, was assistant marketing director from 1995-97 and general manager of Mizzou Sports Properties from 1997-99. He also has held posts at Lehigh and New Mexico, in addition to managerial roles with ISP-Syracuse Sports Properties. While at Missouri, Gillin was responsible for oversight of all facets of day-to-day operations in the athletic director’s absence. He was involved in every aspect of financial planning and budget development, was a member of the department’s strategic plan development team and was responsible for developing and refining of strategic priorities for external relations units … Villa Maria announced that Don Silveri will serve as the school’s athletic director and men’s basketball coach for the program. Silveri had been the coach for 25 years at Daemen College before he was relieved of his duties last fall. He had a 414-344 record with the Wildcats. He also was the athletic director for part of his time at the Amherst school.
Associate Athletics Director -- Jason Imperati has been appointed associate athletic director for internal operations for the District of Columbia athletic department. In this role, Imperati will manage the day-to-day program-based and event-based department-wide activities, provide supervision on various internal components of the department of intercollegiate athletics, oversee facilities management, manage game day operations, monitor equipment and uniform procurement, oversee sports medicine operations and direct sport camp programs. Imperati brings a vast range of experience and skills having served various roles in NCAA athletic administration, all at three schools within the same conference as UDC - the East Coast Conference … Pete Cautilli, a veteran administrator with four decades of experience at the collegiate level, has been named senior associate athletic director for development at Temple. Cautilli, a native of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, has been on the athletic administrative staffs at Bucknell, Idaho State, Colorado State, Saint Louis and Louisville, serving as either an assistant athletic director or associate athletic director … After nearly 30 years of service to UNC Asheville, Mike Gore is set to retire. Gore, the Bulldogs’ associate athletic director for external affairs, has been a fixture in the Asheville athletic department since 1986, serving as the liaison with the media and handling all media-related activities concerning the athletic department for 29 years … Penn State announced the appointment of Lynn Holleran as senior associate athletic director for administration. Holleran brings nearly 30 years of university and athletic administrative experience to position. In her role at Penn State, Holleran will work closely with the senior executive team on the day-to-day administrative operations of Penn State's 31-sport athletic program. Holleran will manage several of the department's internal units and functions, including compliance and human resources. She also will serve as the primary liaison with the Morgan Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes, the University's office of General Counsel and the Office of the Faculty Athletics Representative … Rutgers announced the promotion of Kevin Lorincz to senior associate athletic director for communications. Lorincz has been at Rutgers since 2007, serving as the school's primary contact for men's basketball and men's and women's golf in his previous role as assistant director of athletics/communications. He will now oversee the athletic communications staff for all 24 Rutgers sports in addition to continuing as the primary contact for men's basketball … Rutgers announced the hiring of Hasim Phillips as associate athletic director for media relations/football. Phillips, a 2004 Rutgers graduate, returns to his alma mater to serve as the primary media contact for football after working as a communications manager for The Madison Square Garden Company since 2012. He began his career in athletic communications at Rutgers in 2004, serving as an assistant until 2007 before becoming an assistant director for athletic communications from 2007-11.
Assistant Athletics Directors -- Miami (Ohio) has announced that Liz Bath has been promoted to assistant A.D. for business operations. Bath has served as the director of business operations with the RedHawks since 2012. Since arriving at Miami in 2005, Bath has served in several different roles. She spent time during her Miami career in the Miami budget office (2009-12) and general accounting department (2005-09). She began her professional career in the accounting department with Chiquita Brands from 2002-05 … Shawn Green, who has worked in NCAA compliance at the New Hampshire since 2010, has been named the assistant director of athletics for compliance at Southern New Hampshire. Green began his stint at UNH in the fall of 2010 as compliance coordinator and academic support assistant, and was elevated to assistant athletic director for compliance in July of 2013. At UNH, his responsibilities included coordinating the departments National Letter of Intent program, overseeing coaches’ education as well as University and community outreach and education. He also monitored rules compliance and provided NCAA rules interpretations to coaches and staff … Patrick Ransdell has been named Miami (Ohio)’s associate director of development / assistant athletic director. Ransdell has served as the assistant director of development with the RedHawks since 2013, after serving in athletics leadership roles at UNC Wilmington and Coastal Carolina.
Conferences
Assistant commissioners – The Western Athletic Conference named Kristin Preble the assistant director of championships and marketing at the WAC. Preble comes to the WAC after spending the last year and a half as the compliance and championships coordinator at The Ivy League, where she planned and executed 11 championship events. She also assisted with sport administration, compliance and student-athlete support services … The Eastern College Athletic Conference named Donald P. Tutson, Jr. general counsel for the conference. In this role Tutson will advise the conference on legal matters. Tutson, a graduate of Syracuse and UConn School of Law, has been counseling corporate clients in Connecticut for the past 18 years. Currently, Tutson runs his solo practice, the Law Office of Donald P. Tutson, Jr., located in Stamford, Connecticut, where he manages a variety of transactional based matters that include representing employers and emploees in contractual and workplace concerns, commercial and residential real estate conveyances, estate planning, land use and civil litigation.
Coaches
Men’s Basketball -- Moravian men’s basketball coach Jim Walker announced his retirement after leading the Greyhounds’ program for the last 35 seasons. Walker has amassed a 442-440 record during his time in Bethlehem, and a career coaching mark of 456-452 in 36 years after getting his coaching career started with a year at Drew University for the 1978-79 season. Walker guided the Greyhounds to two NCAA Tournament bids, including one in 2007-08, 10 conference playoff appearances and six of his teams earned national rankings.
Field Hockey -- Delaware hired Beth Maddox as the associate head coach for the field hockey team. Maddox joins the Blue Hens after serving five seasons as the head coach at Ball State. She is no stranger to the Colonial Athletic Association as she is a 2005 graduate of Old Dominion, where she played for the Lady Monarchs during their tenure in the conference.
Football -- Thomas More named Regis Scafe head football coach.
Women’s Golf -- Carthage named Mike Scardina as the Lady Reds’ head women’s golf coach. Scardina, a part-time assistant coach, replaced Tyler Wollberg. Scardina, a part-time assistant coach and native of Cincinnati, Ohio, attended Central Methodist University and graduated in 1976 with a bachelor's in business administration. He went on to a 36-year career with the Allstate Insurance Company retiring in 2013 and now lives in Vernon Hills, Ill. Scardina is an avid golfer, has won multiple amateur events and has competed in the Irish Open and the British Senior Open.
Women’s Golf Assistants -- UTSA announced former Roadrunners standout Summer Batiste has been named assistant coach. Batiste has spent the past 14 months as a volunteer assistant coach on Parnaby's staff. In her first year with the program, Batiste helped tutor UTSA to a pair of top-five finishes in Spring 2014. Batiste was a four-year letterwinner in 2007-12 and served as team captain her final two seasons.
Women’s volleyball – Eastern Michigan named Kimi Olson as the Eagles' head volleyball coach. Olson comes to Ypsilanti after spending the previous five seasons as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston. Just the eighth head coach in program history, Olson owns 11 years of experience coaching and competing at the Division I level between the College of Charleston, University of Albany and USC. Olson was the 2013 recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 award.
Deaths -- Terry Truax, a long-time basketball coach at the collegiate and scholastic levels, passed away suddenly on Feb. 16. He was 70 years old. A member of the Towson University Athletics Hall of Fame, he was the Tigers’ head basketball coach from 1983 to 1997. During that time, he guided a very young Division I program and molded it into a very strong mid-major program. During his 14 seasons as the Tigers’ head coach, he led Towson to seven winning seasons, three conference tournament championships and four conference regular season titles. His career record of 202-203 was somewhat misleading. Over his final 11 seasons, the Tigers were 177-143. Honored as the East Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 1989 and 1991, he was named as the Big South Conference Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994. In 1990, he guided Towson to its first NCAA Tournament appearance … Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., president of Notre Dame from 1952 to 1987, a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, and one of the nation’s most influential figures in higher education, the Catholic Church, and national and international affairs, died February 26, at Holy Cross House adjacent to the university. He was 97. He joined the Notre Dame faculty in 1945 and served as chaplain to World War II veterans on campus in addition to his teaching duties in the Religion Department. He was appointed the head of that department in 1948, and the following year was appointed executive vice president in the administration of Rev. John J. Cavanaugh, C.S.C., the university’s president. At the age of 35 in June 1952, he was named the 15th president of Notre Dame. The accomplishments of the Hesburgh era at Notre Dame are reflected in statistics comparing the Notre Dame of 1952, when Father Hesburgh became president, with the Uuiversity he left in 1987. The annual operating budget went from $9.7 million to $176.6 million, the endowment from $9 million to $350 million, and research funding from $735,000 to $15 million. Enrollment increased from 4,979 to 9,600, faculty from 389 to 950, and degrees awarded annually from 1,212 to 2,500. The two major changes during the Hesburgh era were the transference of governance in 1967 from the Congregation of Holy Cross to a two-tiered, mixed board of lay and religious trustees and fellows, and the admission of women to the undergraduate program in 1972 … The Simon Fraser community is saddened to learn that its founding Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, Lorne Davies, passed away February 27 after battling health issues. Davies, 84, is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, June, sons, Lorne Jr. and Glyn, and a large extended family. Davies became the first athletic director and football coach at SFU in 1965, and almost immediately began masterminding some of the most forward-thinking measures in Canadian university sport. Davies hired full-time coaches, promoted female participation in university sport, awarded athletic scholarships to student-athletes, and took the Clan on a path to compete in the United States against American competition in the NAIA -- offering student-athletes access to the American athletic experience with a Canadian education. Davies grew the athletic department from three programs – football, basketball and swimming – in 1965 to one of the most successful university athletic departments in the country with 17 men's and women's programs.
