GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS

  • The committee's responsibilities are to interpret Division I legislation consistent with the intent of the rule and original rationale. Also the committee is charged with approving all interpretations issued by the national office staff. The issues are generally very broad, covering most topical areas and can come either directly from the staff or from an institution or conference as an appeal of a staff interpretation.


NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR

  • Zero, this committee does not meet in person.


NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR

  • Weekly conference calls on Wednesday afternoon for about 90 minutes. There is also an emergency policy whereby an institution may request that the committee convene an emergency call within 48-hours if the interpretive issue relates to action that has already occurred and will affect a student-athlete's eligibility.
