"Fly-fishing is just as nerve-racking as playing goalie."

Huh? That is no Mad Lib; it’s Cody Burgdorff’s life. The Augustana College (Illinois) senior tends goal for the school’s lacrosse team and doubles as a world-class fly fisherman. As a child in Colorado, Burgdorff routinely found himself in waist-deep water with his grandparents. Those fishing trips eventually evolved into something more: He was a member of the 2012 U.S. Youth Fly Fishing Team that captured second at the world championships in France, and he won a recent competition on the new Pro Fly Angling Tour. Immersed in two sports as well as two majors (economics and accounting), Burgdorff’s schedule is full. If he had to devote his time to either fly-fishing or lacrosse, which would he choose? Both, he said: “It’s important that you don’t give up one passion for another.”
