Athletics directors – Christine Rawak, executive senior associate athletics director at Michigan, was named Delaware’s director of intercollegiate athletics and recreation services … Arkansas-Fort Smith Director of Athletics Dustin Smith is stepping down after eight years to become director of athletics operations for Greenwood Public Schools in Arkansas … Clarion appointed Wendy Snodgrass, who is entering her 12th year in the athletics department, as interim athletics director. Snodgrass has served as the university's associate athletics director, senior woman administrator, compliance coordinator and Title IX deputy since 2007 … Bowling Green appointed Bob Moosbrugger as director of athletics. Moosbrugger, a 1994 graduate of Bowling Green, had been deputy director of athletics/chief operating officer at San Diego State … Ken Halpin, deputy athletics director at Eastern Washington, has been selected as Winthrop’s director of athletics … Kevin Blue, senior associate athletics director for external relations at Stanford, has been named director of athletics at UC Davis.

Associate athletics directors – Quinnipiac selected Sarah Fraser as deputy director of athletics. Fraser comes to Quinnipiac from Brown University, where she served as the senior associate director of athletics for compliance … Tulane promoted Chris Maitre to senior associate athletics director for business and operations. Maitre will have oversight of the athletics business office, facilities, event management and the equipment room … Jerry Kill, who retired from coaching football at Minnesota in 2015 due to health reasons, is returning to his home state of Kansas as Kansas State associate athletics director for administration. In his new role, Kill will serve as chief administrator for the Kansas State football program … South Florida named Scott Kull deputy athletics director for external operations. Kull has worked in athletics administration at TCU and Florida State … Christian Stryker, Coker associate athletics director for external operations, has been promoted to senior associate athletics director.

Assistant athletics directors – Penn State announced the promotion of three staff members to assistant athletics directors. Herb Combs was named assistant athletics director for outdoor athletics facilities; Ken Cutler was named assistant athletics director for major gifts; and Nikki Potoczny was named assistant athletics director for the annual fund.


Men’s basketball – Millersville hired Casey Stitzel as head coach. Stitzel, a two-time Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Coach of the Year, spent the previous eight seasons as head coach at Delaware Valley.

Women’s basketball – Lynn Plett, who was most recently the assistant coach at Northern Kentucky University, will be the head coach at Colorado-Colorado Springs starting in the 2016-17 season … Upper Iowa selected Micha Thompson as head coach. She served as an assistant coach at Utah State for the past four years … Cameron named assistant coach Emma Andrews head coach … Cheryl Miller is the new head coach at Cal State L.A. As a college athlete, Miller led Southern California to two national titles in 1983 and 1984. She helped guide the 1984 U.S. Olympic team to a gold medal and is enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. She has coached at Southern California and Langston University in Oklahoma, as well as serving as coach and general manager of the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field – Georgia Southwestern head women’s cross country coach Brittney Skiles resigned to become assistant men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia.

Field hockey – Newberry hired Anne Kietzman as head coach. Kietzman served at Dickinson as assistant coach and interim head coach in 2015-16.

Football – Mike Jacobs was named head coach at Notre Dame (Ohio), taking over for Bill Rychel, who resigned. Jacobs has been with the program since 2014, serving first as defensive line coach and then as defensive coordinator/assistant head coach.

Men’s and women’s golf – Adam Goins has been named head coach for the men’s and women’s teams at Coker after serving as interim head coach since September … Joe Christianson, American International head men’s and women’s coach, resigned to take the same position at Concordia-Moorhead … After nine years leading Ferris State’s men’s and women’s teams, head coach Mike Mignano resigned. He will become program director for The First Tee of Northern Michigan, a youth development  program.

Men’s and women’s gymnastics – After 10 seasons at the helm of the women’s program at Washington, Joanne Bowers will step down as head coach. She plans to relocate to Harrisonburg, Virginia, where her husband, John, is an assistant football coach at James Madison.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey – Trine has named Tom Hofman and Alex Todd as head coaches for its women’s and men’s teams, which will launch in the fall of 2017. Hofman will serve as coach of the women’s team. He most recently served as the inaugural head coach of the women’s team at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Todd has been named coach for the men’s team. He previously served as assistant coach for the men’s team at Omaha.

Softball – After 20 years as Tarleton State head coach, Julie Mata tendered her resignation to pursue other career opportunities. A two-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, Mata has amassed 569 career wins.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – Colorado Mesa hired Geoff Hanson as head coach of the men’s and women’s teams. Hanson previously served as head coach of the women’s team at Western State.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – Mississippi College women’s head coach Peter Cosmiano resigned after 12 seasons. He will become the director of parks and recreation for Jasper, Alabama … After serving as interim head coach of the South Dakota Mines women’s team for the 2015 season, Doug Tabbert has been named head coach.

Wrestling – Todd Steidley, a former national champion for Central Oklahoma who went on to win seven state titles as a high school coach in the state, will take over as the Central Oklahoma head coach. Steidley most recently was principal at Claremore High School in Oklahoma.


Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Commissioner Bob Boerigter announced his retirement, effective Jan. 31, 2017, after 45 years of service to intercollegiate athletics. Boerigter, who has served in numerous NCAA governance positions, has been commissioner since fall 2010. 


Austin Worbington, a freshman wide receiver on Colorado Mesa’s football team, drowned May 11 in a swimming hole near Glade Park, Colorado. He was 20 years old.

May 17

Presidents and chancellors – Ray M. Keck has been appointed interim president at Texas A&M-Commerce. Since 2001, Keck has served as president of Texas A&M International … Anthony L. Jenkins was named president of West Virginia State, effective July 1. He most recently served as senior associate vice president for student development and enrollment services at UCF.

Athletics directors – Finlandia has named women’s volleyball coach Kristan Schuster as director of athletics. Schuster follows Chris Salani, who had led athletics at Finlandia since 2002. Schuster has coached women’s volleyball at Finlandia for the past three seasons, while also serving as the senior woman administrator and overseeing Finlandia’s summer youth athletic camps … Leon Costello, deputy director of athletics at South Dakota State, will be athletics director at Montana State … Dave Katis is transitioning out of his role as athletics director at Clarion after 11 years. Katis will take on a faculty position in sport management … Minnesota named Mark Coyle director of athletics. Coyle, a former athletics administrator at Minnesota, has served as athletics director at Syracuse and Boise State and as deputy athletics director at Kentucky … Steve Kirkham, athletics director at Colorado-Colorado Springs since 2004, is retiring this summer, completing an almost 40-year coaching and athletics administration career. Before Colorado-Colorado Springs, Kirkham spent 16 years coaching women’s basketball at Colorado Mesa … Christopher Newport promoted Kyle McMullin to director of athletics. McMullin has served the athletics department in various capacities for the past eight years.

Associate athletics director – Minot State Associate Athletics Director Chad McNally is resigning his position to pursue private business ventures. McNally, who played football at Minot State, has been part of the athletics department for the past 12 years … Wendy McManus, Northwestern Oklahoma State associate director for compliance, has accepted a position at New Haven as associate director of athletics for compliance and student welfare … Pittsburgh appointed Dustin Gray as senior associate athletics director for compliance and sport services. Gray spent the past decade as a compliance professional at Iowa State.

Assistant athletics directors – Oregon State hired Jeff Pivic as assistant athletics director for annual giving. Since 2013, Pivic had been with Arizona State’s Sun Devil Club, where he directly oversaw and coordinated all annual fund solicitation efforts.


Baseball – Cal State San Marcos head coach Dennis Pugh is retiring after starting the baseball program 10 years ago. Previously, he coached for 27 years at Mission Bay High School in Pacific Beach, California … Pittsburg State hired Tom Myers as head coach. Myers served the past two years as associate athletics director for facilities at Pittsburg State. He succeeds Matt Murray, who resigned after leading the Gorillas for the past four years … Steve Browning will step down as coach at Southern Arkansas after accepting a full-time position as director of athletics. Browning, a 2001 graduate of Southern Arkansas, has been head coach of the program for six seasons. For the past four years, he also served as athletics director. Associate head coach Justin Pettigrew will take over as head coach after completing his 11th year with the program. 

Men’s basketball – Merrimack hired Joe Gallo, a 2004 alum and former assistant coach at his alma mater, as head coach. Gallo was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Robert Morris for the past four seasons … Grant Leep, who worked seven seasons as an assistant at Seattle Pacific, has been appointed the school's head coach after previously serving on an interim basis … Lincoln (Pennsylvania) named former NBA player Doug Overton head coach. As a college athlete at La Salle, Overton scored more than 1,700 points. His coaching career includes stints with the NBA Basketball Without Borders program in Beijing and the Nike Skills Academy, as well as coaching youth in Spain and Australia.

Women’s basketball – West Virginia Wesleyan named Vicky Bullett head coach. Bullett, who was a student-athlete at Maryland, a two-time Olympian and a WNBA player, spent the past five years as an educator and head coach at Hagerstown Community College in Maryland … Southwest Minnesota State named Tom Webb head coach. Webb has been head coach at Cameron since 2008 … Dixie State hired JD Gustin as head coach. Gustin, who replaced Jenny Thigpin, recently concluded his first season as an assistant coach at Weber State, where he helped lead the Wildcats to a 23-12 record.

Women’s basketball assistants – Lamar added Levar Willis as an assistant coach. Willis previously was at fellow Southland Conference member Southeastern Louisiana, where he spent the past two seasons as associate head coach … Former Concordia-St. Paul head coach Paul Fessler will join Bradley as an assistant coach in 2016-17. 

Football – Limestone introduced Mike Furrey, formerly the wide receivers coach at Marshall and an eight-year NFL veteran, as head coach. Furrey also spent two seasons as head coach at Kentucky Christian.

Men’s and women’s golf – Hofstra head women’s coach Maren Crowley is resigning to expand her career in the professional golf industry. Crowley completed her eighth season as head coach at her alma mater in 2015-16. 

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Davis and Elkins men’s head coach Bert Severns was named men’s head coach at Emmanuel (Georgia). Severns also spent four seasons at Centre, where he built the men’s program from the ground up … Coker interim head women’s coach Chelsea Kent resigned after three years with the program. Kent joined the Coker staff as an assistant coach in 2013 and was promoted to head coach in 2014. She compiled a record of 17-15 as head coach. Coker promoted Kate Keagins to interim head women’s coach. She joined the staff in January as an assistant coach.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Rogers State named Scott Parkinson head coach of the women’s team. Parkinson was formerly an assistant coach with the Hillcat men’s program for two seasons … Eckerd appointed Ian Cameron as head coach of its men’s team. Cameron, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, spent three years as an assistant coach at Mercer … John Ciano has been named head men’s coach at Saint Rose. Ciano spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Siena

Softball – Washburn announced head coach Vanessa Becerra has left her position after five seasons … Sarah Byrne is stepping down as head coach at Dominican (California). Byrne joined Dominican in 2011 as assistant coach and was promoted to head coach in October 2012.


Strength and conditioning – Coker hired 2012 graduate Brendan Marcell as the college’s first strength and conditioning coach, as well as assistant men's basketball coach … Troy Thompson has been promoted to head strength and conditioning coach at Pace. He has worked with the football program during the past year.

Marketing – Holy Cross has named Dan Mercurio director of athletics marketing. Mercurio will be responsible for the creation and execution of all athletics marketing plans, while assisting in development and implementation of strategies to generate revenue and bring community exposure. Since 2013, Mercurio had been director of marketing and strategic planning at Boston University.


Vince Nicastro was appointed to the newly created position of Big East Conference deputy commissioner and chief operating officer. Nicastro served for 15 years as Villanova’s director of athletics before being named associate director of the Jeffrey Moorad Center for the Study of Sports Law at the Villanova School of Law last year.


Greg Bryant Jr., 21, a former Notre Dame running back who had committed to join UAB for the 2016 season, died April 8 after a shooting on Interstate 95 near West Palm Beach, Florida.


May 6

Athletics director – Montana State hired Kyle Brennan, deputy athletics director at Utah, as athletics director … Concordia-Moorhead announced it is making its athletics director position full time, and Associate Athletics Director Rachel Bergeson will serve as interim athletics director. Rich Glas, who served as athletics director for the past four seasons, will continue as head coach for the men’s basketball team, a position he’s held for eight seasons … Brad Jones, who has been an assistant athletics director and compliance officer at Brigham Young-Hawaii since January, was promoted to athletics director. Jones has worked in conference administration and on-campus operations for more than 10 years.

Associate athletics directors – Raymond Harrison has been named senior associate athletics director at North Carolina State. He served in a similar role at Texas A&M … Jason M. Trufant is leaving his position as senior associate director of athletics for administration at Dowling to become the director of athletics at Mississippi University for Women, which is reviving its athletics department after last fielding teams in 2002 … Indiana State promoted Angie Lansing to senior associate athletics director. She will  continue her duties as the department’s senior woman administrator. Lansing, who was assistant athletics director for business operations, recently filled the role of interim director of athletics for several months.

Assistant athletics directors – Stetson hired Mike McKercher as assistant athletics director for external operations. He previously served as assistant athletics director for development, responsible for major gift fundraising, at Binghamton University … Southern Utah selected Chanel Barnes as assistant athletics director for strategic communications. Barnes, who recently received a master’s from Southern Utah, previously worked for the department as an assistant sports information director and most recently was at Westminster (Utah) as a communications specialist … Katie Glunt has joined Marquette as assistant athletics director for marketing and fan engagement. She most recently served as director of marketing and branding at SMU for the past three seasons … Joanna Harris, who has served as director of academic services for Winthrop athletics during the past five years, has been promoted to assistant athletics director for academics and student services … Grace Moore, the assistant for external affairs at Canisius, has been named assistant athletics director for marketing partnerships at UNC Pembroke. 


Baseball – Indiana (Pennsylvania) head coach Jeff Ditch announced his retirement after 11 seasons with the Crimson Hawks and 24 years in the profession with six different collegiate programs. Ditch has amassed 253 victories with the Crimson Hawks.

Men’s basketball – Former Little Rock head coach Chris Beard was named head coach at Texas Tech, less than a month after accepting the head coaching position at UNLV. In his only season at Little Rock, Beard led the Trojans to the Sun Belt’s regular-season and tournament championships and a victory over fifth-seeded Purdue in the NCAA tournament. Previously, Beard was an assistant at Texas Tech for 10 years … UNLV hired Marvin Menzies as head coach. Menzies spent nine years as head coach at New Mexico State, where he led the Aggies to their fifth straight 20-win season in 2015-16 … Jeff Linder was named head coach of Northern Colorado. Linder spent six seasons at Boise State, the last three as associate head coach. He replaces B.J. HillHeath Schroyer resigned as head coach at UT Martin to accept an assistant coaching position at North Carolina State. Anthony Stewart will take over as interim coach at UT Martin for the 2016-17 season. He recently completed his second season as associate head coach … Utica hired Sean Coffey as head coach. Coffey spent five seasons as a full-time assistant coach at St. John Fisher … SUNY Potsdam named James Bechtel head coach. Bechtel spent four years at SUNY Canton, overseeing the program’s transition into the Division III ranks … Eric Dougal announced his resignation as Kalamazoo head coach to pursue other opportunities. He completed his fourth season at the helm this year … Longtime assistant Gabriel Roberts has been named Brigham Young-Hawaii head coach … Ryan Looney was named head coach at Point Loma. In seven seasons as head coach at Seattle Pacific, he compiled a 164-51 record. Seattle Pacific assistant coach Grant Leep has been named interim head coach … Martin Luther named Greg Holzhueter head coach. Holzhueter takes over for Jim Unke, who served as head coach for the past 19 seasons. Unke will continue to serve as director of athletics for the Knights. Holzhueter, a 2011 Martin Luther graduate who was a three-sport student-athlete, has three years of experience as head coach at Bethany Lutheran. Bethany Lutheran hired Matt Fletcher as head coach. Fletcher spent the past three seasons as an associate and assistant coach at Upper Iowa … Randolph head coach Clay Nunley was selected as head coach at Roanoke … Newbury hired former Boston Celtic and NBA All-Star Dana Barros as head coach … Loras selected Chris Martin as head coach. Martin helped spearhead a turnaround at Elmhurst, where he spent the past five years as an assistant coach … Sewanee named assistant Bradley Pierson as head coach … Ryan Cain has been named head coach at Keene State. Cain spent the 2015-16 season as interim head coach, leading the Owls to a 20-11 record … Chadron State hired Houston Reed as head coach. As head coach for the past 10 years at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado, he put together a career winning record of 174-140.

Women’s basketball – Jim Harter was named head coachat Mercy. He previously served as head men’s coach at Pace for 16 years … Winston-Salem State announced L'Tona Lamonte as head coach. Lamonte spent last season as assistant head coach at North Carolina Central after serving as an assistant coach at Belmont for two seasons … Jennifer Rizzotti resigned as head coach of Hartford to take over the same position at George Washington. Rizzotti has been Hartford's head coach since 1999 … Lyndsey Seewald has been named head coach at Marian (Wisconsin). Last season Seewald served as head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha, where she led the Cougars to a 16-7 overall record … Presbyterian announced Todd Steelman as head coach. Steelman spent four seasons at Maine as associate head coach … Cedar Crest named Kristin Karat as head coach, as well as coordinator of athletics operations and strength and conditioning coach. Karat most recently was an assistant coach at Granby Memorial High School in Connecticut and previously was an assistant with the Nichols and Tufts programs … SUNY Potsdam named Brittany Cohen head coach. Cohen, a former SUNY Cortland standout, spent the past season as the player development intern for the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks … Ayana McWilliams was hired as head coach at Lincoln (Missouri). McWilliams spent the past five years as an assistant coach at USC Upstate … Caleb Henson was named head coach at Sul Ross State. Henson served as assistant coach at Lubbock Christian, where he helped guide the Chaps to a 35-0 record and the Division II title this year … Bethany (West Virginia) hired Brian Sansom as head coach. Sansom most recently was an assistant at Farleigh Dickinson … Caitlin Hadzimichalis, who has been the top assistant for seven years at King’s (Pennsylvania), has been named the head coach at Keystone … Fitchburg State appointed Daniel Nagle as head coach. Nagle spent two seasons coaching the girls team at Worcester Academy, a Massachusetts prep school … Fred Castro, an assistant coach at Washington for the past three years, has been named head coach at Eastern Michigan … Anthony Crocitto, who has served as head coach at New York Institute of Technology for the past seven seasons, was named Saint Leo’s head coach … Mars Hill head coach Sarah Jansen was named to the same position at Queens (North Carolina) … Bloomsburg hired Alison Tagliaferri as head coach. Tagliaferri spent five years as head coach of her alma mater, Mansfield. She takes over for Bill Cleary, who took the head coaching position at Colgate … After 12 seasons as Humboldt State’s head coach, Joddie Gleason is leaving to take a position at Seattle as associate head coach.

Women’s basketball assistants – Christena Hamilton is joining Bradley’s program as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, and Kristi Zeller has been added as an assistant coach. Hamilton spent the past five seasons as an assistant coach at Winthrop. Zeller has been an assistant at Idaho for five seasons … Humboldt State assistant coach Skip Gleason has accepted the same position at Seattle.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball – Taylor Mott, the current women’s volleyball coach at Austin Peay State, will coach the university’s new beach volleyball team, which will begin play next spring … Daemen promoted Stephanie Albano to head coach of the women’s program. Albano spent the 2015 season as associate head coach at Daemen.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field – Colorado-Colorado Springs added Ross Fellows to the Mountain Lion staff as co-head coach for the men’s and women’s track and field teams. Fellows was head assistant coach at Nebraska-Kearney for the past six seasons.

Football – Virginia State selected Reggie Barlow as head coach. Barlow was head coach at his alma mater, Alabama State, from 2007 to 2014. He spent eight years playing in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Men’s and women’s ice hockey – St. Lawrence named Mark Morris head coach of its men’s team. Morris has served as head coach for the Charlotte Checkers, an affiliate for the National Hockey League Carolina Hurricanes.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Georgia Southwestern head women’s coach Samantha Snow announced her resignation. Snow, who is transitioning into a full-time director role in youth soccer, completed her fourth season leading the Lady Hurricanes in 2015 … Former Millersville men’s assistant coach Steve Small has been named head coach of the Slippery Rock men’s program … Binghamton University head coach Sarah McClellan has been selected to lead the women’s program at Roberts Wesleyan. 

Softball – Interim coach Melissa Chmielewski was named head coach at Missouri Southern State. Chmielewski took over a team that finished 15-37 in 2015 and helped the Lions improve to 23-32 in 2016 … Southwestern Oklahoma State head coach Barbara Burnett has resigned. She has been the coach at her alma mater since summer 2014 … Lindenwood (Missouri) head coach Don Loberg has stepped down after completing his 11th season leading the team.

Men’s and women’s tennis – Lenoir-Rhyne hired Tom Rees as head men’s and women’s coach. For the past two seasons, he was head men and women’s coach at Illinois-Springfield. 


Tamara Flarup, a longtime Wisconsin athletics communications director, announced her retirement, effective Aug. 31. Most recently serving as the director of website services, Flarup has been in various roles in communications with the department of athletics since 1977.


The Big Sky Conference appointed Andrea Williams as commissioner. Williams has served as associate commissioner for the Big Ten Conference for the past 10 years. 


Dan Jones, 63, president of Texas A&M-Commerce, died April 29. Jones assumed the presidency in July 2008. Previously, he served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Texas A&M International … Former Kentucky men’s basketball player Ed Davender, 49, died April 28 after a heart attack. Davender, who starred at Kentucky from 1985­ to 1988, had 1,637 career points and 436 total assists, making him the only player in school history with at least 1,500 points and 400 assists … Dick Yoder, a former West Chester alum, professor, coach, administrator and athletics director, died May 3. He was 79. Yoder served as an assistant football coach and track and field coach for the Golden Rams for 17 years. In 1979, he was named the athletics director at West Chester, a position he held until 1988.

May 3

Presidents and chancellors – Faith Hensrud was appointed president of Bemidji State and Northwest Technical College, effective July 1. Hensrud has served Wisconsin-Superior since 1995 in several capacities, including provost/vice chancellor for academic affairs since 2010 … Sioux Falls President Mark Benedetto announced his decision to retire in the summer of 2017. Benedetto is about to begin his 20th year with Sioux Falls and 40th year in higher education, having worked in leadership roles at six universities … Cecil P. Staton, interim president of Valdosta State, has been named chancellor of East Carolina.

Athletics director – Keene State announced Kristene Kelly as athletics director. For the past seven years at Saint Augustine’s, Kelly served as associate athletics director and assistant professor and chair for the department of business, accounting and sport management … Floyd Kerr, director of Morgan State’s athletics department, is retiring. Kerr has held the post since 2005 … Ken Wagner, Brigham Young-Hawaii athletics director and head men’s basketball coach, is leaving the university to take a position helping the Taiwanese men's and women's national basketball teams. Wagner has overseen the athletics program for 21 seasons and earned his 500th basketball victory this year … Alex Ricker-Gilbert, Jacksonville senior associate athletics director of administration, has been promoted to athletics director. Donnie Horner, who has led the 20-sport department for two years, is leaving his athletics director post to focus on his work as full-time professor … Terrance J. Tumey will be the new Claremont-Mudd-Scripps director of athletics, physical education and recreational services.

Associate athletics director – Lehman appointed Erin Van Nostrand associate director of athletics. Van Nostrand previously coached softball at Pacific Lutheran, where she guided the Lutes to the 2012 Division III championship.  

Assistant athletics director – Steve Grogan, who graduated from Lander in 1980 and has worked at the university for 21 years, has announced he will retire Aug. 31. Grogan is currently assistant athletics director for the Jeff May Complex … Salisbury promoted Jess Stoltz to assistant athletics director. Stoltz has been at Salisbury for four years, first as a graduate assistant with the softball program and then as assistant to the athletics director.


Men’s basketball – Bacari Alexander was appointed head coach at his alma mater, Detroit. Walker will be embarking on his first collegiate coaching opportunity with more than a decade of NBA coaching experience, including 56 victories as a head coach in the league. Walker also headed up teams in the WNBA and Continental Basketball Association … Lake Erie head coach Cliff Hunt has announced his retirement. In a career that spanned 47 years at the high school and college levels, Hunt won 501 games. Associate head coach Kyle Conley will succeed Hunt as head coach … Utica hired Sean Coffey as head coach. Coffey most recently spent five seasons as a full-time assistant coach at St. John Fisher … Lenoir-Rhyne named Everick Sullivan head coach. Sullivan previously served as associate head coach at Eastern Kentucky and spent the past four seasons at Georgia State as assistant coach … Wayne State (Nebraska) head coach Brian Dolan will not return next season. Women’s basketball – Lauren Unger, an assistant women's basketball coach and head women's cross country coach at Arkansas-Fort Smith, has been named head women's basketball coach at Western New Mexico … Franklin Pierce named Jeanette Wedo head coach. Wedo was an assistant coach at three different Division I institutions for the previous 10 years, most recently at William and Mary … Colorado Christian named Corey Laster head coach. Laster has been a collegiate coach for 16 years, including the past two at Gordon … Kentucky State coach Serena King-Coleman was named head coach at Fayetteville State. In seven seasons at Kentucky State, King-Coleman compiled an overall record of 99-67 … Concordia-St. Paul has named Amanda Behnke head coach. She was elevated to interim head coach for the second half of the 2015-16 season, her fourth year with the program … Dawn Plitzuweit was named head coach at South Dakota. In nine years as a head coach at Northern Kentucky and Grand Valley State, Plitzuweit compiled a 188-93 record with a .669 winning percentage … Malone named Rick Tice head coach. Tice, a 1986 Malone graduate, has served as an assistant coach with the program for the past five seasons … Western State hired Lora Westling as head coach. In 14 years at South Carolina Aiken, Brandt compiled 254 wins.

Football – Dan Land was named head coach at Albany State (Georgia) after serving as interim head coach for the 2015 season. Land had been an assistant coach for Albany State since 2002 and is a former standout running back for the Golden Rams … Stonehill head coach Robert Talley has stepped down after nine seasons to accept the position of director of development for the athletics department at Chico State.

Men’s and women’s golf – Dixie State head women’s coach Rachel Harmon is stepping down. Harmon has served as coach since the program’s inception in 2012-13 … Texas A&M-Kingsville head women’s coaches Alessandra and Mark Dominguez are stepping down as co-head coaches. Alessandra Dominguez served as the program’s first head coach in 2010-11. After two seasons as a volunteer coach, her husband, Mark, was elevated to co-head coach.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Adilyn “Addie” Wadley has been named the first head coach for the Lee women’s team. Wadley previously coached Oregon’s club program … Urbana women’s head coach Mike Hilton is retiring after his third year leading the program.
Men’s and women’s soccer – Kathy Brown has been named head women’s coach at Lock Haven. For the past 18 seasons, she has been head coach at Young Harris after starting the program there … Auburn Montgomery head women’s coach Paige Wetzel resigned. Wetzel was hired in July 2015 as the inaugural coach for the program. The university, which is in the Division II membership process, announced it will delay the start of the volleyball program until the fall of 2017 … Brigham Young-Hawaii men’s and women’s coach Mark Davis is leaving the university to coach the inaugural season for Salt Lake Community College men’s and women’s soccer in Utah … Cal State East Bay head men's coach Andy Cumbo  stepped down after seven seasons with the Pioneers to accept a position as head men's coach at Los Positas College in Livermore, California.

Softball – Andrea Vaughan was named head coach at Rogers State after serving as interim head coach since Jan. 30.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – After spending 27 years as women’s head coach at Ohio Dominican, Sandy Rowley will transition into a full-time role as assistant athletics director and senior woman administrator. Jenn Fekpe, who has spent three years as an assistant for  Ohio Dominican, was named head coach.

Wrestling – David James will not return next season as Central Oklahoma’s head coach. James led the Bronchos to 12 national championships – seven in NCAA Division II and five in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics – during his 34 years at the helm.


The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference hired Taiqua Stewart as the coordinator of women’s basketball officials. Stewart began officiating in the MEAC during the 1994-95 season and has worked 15 MEAC tournaments. 


Michael Sacha, a former pitcher and outfielder for Eastern Michigan’s baseball team, died April 25 at the age of 30. Sacha earned a pair of varsity letters for the Eagles in  2007 and 2008. He was part of the 2008 squad that won the Mid-American Conference tournament.
