Athletics director — Lander named Brian Reese athletics director. Reese most recently was executive director of athletics at Presbyterian … Greg Byrne, vice president for athletics at Arizona since 2010, will become the new director of athletics at Alabama, effective March 1, pending approval of The University of Alabama System board of trustees. Arizona named Senior Associate Director Erika Hanson Barnes as interim director and vice president of intercollegiate athletics.

Associate athletics director — After more 30 years at Macalester, Associate Director of Athletics Vanessa Seljeskog announced she will retire at the end of the 2016-17 academic year. Seljeskog has been associate director of athletics for the past 16 years after serving as assistant athletics director for 10 years. She also coached the women’s cross country and track teams from 1986 to 2000 … After 16 years as a coach and athletics administrator at the University of New England, associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator Joan Howard has announced she will retire May 15. Howard previously served as a head coach in both field hockey and softball. Head women’s soccer coach Heather Davis was promoted to associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator, effective June 1 … Tatum Colitz, a former student-athlete on the Wagner swimming and water polo teams, has been named associate athletics director and senior woman administrator for the Seahawks. After her graduation from Wagner in 2013, Colitz spent two years as an assistant for academics and compliance before being promoted to assistant athletics director for student services in 2015 … Jeff Keisler, who played football at Georgia Tech, will return to The Flats as associate athletics director for annual giving and engagement in the Alexander-Tharpe Fund. After spending much of his professional career in sales, Keisler moved into athletics administration in 2013 as an assistant athletics director at UCF … Angie Torain has joined the Notre Dame athletics department as associate athletics director, human resources, legal and risk management. Torain joins Notre Dame after serving as deputy athletics director and senior woman administrator at Incarnate Word since September 2015 … Stanislaus State promoted Kim Duyst to senior associate athletics director and Aaron Allaire to associate athletics director … Jeramiah Dickey, deputy athletics director at Houston, was named Baylor’s associate vice president for athletics operations … West Virginia named Ben Murray senior associate athletics director and executive director of the Mountaineer Athletic Club … Virginia Tech hired Omar Banks as senior associate athletics director for finance and administration. Banks will serve as chief financial officer and will oversee the athletics department’s business operations and human resources.

Assistant athletics director — Tulane hired Garrett Broom as assistant athletics director, development … New York Institute of Technology hired Junior Salazar as the new assistant athletics director for facilities and operations, effective Jan. 17 … Kennesaw State elevated Mindy Mager-DeBruce to assistant athletics director for compliance/title ix coordinator and Jay Bailey to assistant athletics director for football/equipment operations … Former VMI director of athletics equipment services Lenny Brown has been promoted to assistant athletics director for facilities and compliance.


Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball — Southern New Hampshire hired Edgard “Dega” da Gama as head coach of the women’s team. He previously spent five seasons as the top assistant at Boston College … Auburn Montgomery hired Melissa Robinson as head coach of the women’s team. Robinson spent two years as head coach of the women’s program at Tuskegee … Kevin Rodgers was named head coach of the East Stroudsburg women’s program. Rodgers most recently served as the top assistant coach for Bucknell's women’s team … Chris Johnson has announced his retirement from coaching after 12 years as head of the Seattle Pacific women’s program, preceded by one season as an assistant … Marlon Sano was named head coach of the women's team at Ohio Valley. He took a two-year sabbatical after coaching the women’s program at Texas A&M International from 2012 to 2014.

Field hockey — New Haven hired Kelsi Lykens to lead its new team. Lykens was most recently the assistant coach at Sacred Heart.

Football — Davenport head football coach Lou Esposito resigned. Esposito helped build the football program and saw the team complete a 6-5 record in its first year, which concluded this fall. Offensive coordinator Steve Casula will serve as interim head coach. The school is going through the Division II membership process.

Football assistants — Delaware hired longtime collegiate and NFL assistant Matt Simon as offensive coordinator. Simon, who spent the past six seasons at Buffalo, will also coach the Blue Hen quarterbacks … Eastern Michigan special teams coordinator and tight ends coach Aaron Keen was promoted to offensive coordinator. He will also serve as the team's quarterbacks coach. Eastern Michigan also hired Luke Meadows, assistant head coach for Garden City Community College in Kansas, as an assistant coach.

Men’s and women’s golf — Sarah Yost, a PGA professional and former standout at Little Rock, was named head women’s coach at Fairmont State.

Men’s and women’s soccer — Fort Hays State named Blake Reynolds head coach of its women’s team. Reynolds served as head women’s coach at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas, for four years … Harold Munoz announced he is stepping down as head women’s coach at Georgia Southwestern and has accepted a position as an assistant coach for Angelo State’s women’s team … Dallas selected Lexi Stinson as head coach of its women’s team. She replaces Angelina Pane, who left after four seasons. Stinson, who played soccer at Hardin-Simmons from 2012 to 2015, spent the past season as an assistant coach with LeTourneau … Charleston (West Virginia) promoted assistant Dan Stratford to head coach of the men’s team … Former Piedmont head coach Stephen Andrew was named head coach of the Valdosta State women’s program. Andrew has 10 years of experience as a head coach on the collegiate level … Franklin Pierce selected Jonathan Garbar as head coach of the women’s program. Garbar coached for five seasons at the junior college level at Monroe College in New York … Mike Barroqueiro was selected as head coach of the women’s team at Delaware. A former head coach at Iona, Barroqueiro spent the past four seasons at North Carolina State as associate head coach.

Softball — Chadron State head coach Robert Stack announced he will retire after the 2017 season after 10 years guiding the program. He will continue in his role as a professor of mathematical sciences and department chair of mathematics … Delaware Valley named 2012 graduate Maggie Kichler head coach. She replaces Corey Heulitt, who resigned after three years as head coach to return to school for physical therapy. Kichler has worked as an assistant coach and pitching coach at West Chester for three years, followed by a one-year stint as director of softball at Maplezone Sports Institute in Pennsylvania.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving — Northern State announced that head women’s coach Elyce Kastigar will step down after the 2017 season to pursue other professional opportunities. Kastigar, who established the Northern State program in 2007, spent 10 seasons with the Wolves.

Men’s and women’s tennis — After running the Cameron men’s team since it was started in 1993 and the women’s team since 1999, James Helvey is stepping down … Angelo State selected Chris Bizot to lead its women’s program. Bizot will lead the first Angelo State women’s tennis team since the spring of 1986. He spent the past 12 years at Texas-Tyler coaching the men’s and women’s tennis programs.


Northern Michigan offensive lineman Anthony Herbert died suddenly Jan. 17. Herbert, 20, was a construction management major.

Presidents and chancellors — Christopher M. Fiorentino was selected to serve as president of West Chester after serving as interim president at the university since April 2016. Before that, Fiorentino had worked as vice president for external operations at the university since 2013 … Wheeling Jesuit accepted the resignation of the university’s president, the Rev. James J. Fleming. Fleming had served as president since 2013 and was vice president for three years before that … Brian Reese, executive director of athletics at Presbyterian, was named director of athletics at Lander. During his tenure, Presbyterian successfully completed its transition to NCAA Division I status.

Athletics directors — Shorter announced that head football coach Aaron Kelton was named interim athletics director. He joined Shorter athletics in the spring of 2016 … Plymouth State selected Kim Bownes as director of athletics. Bownes, who began her career at Plymouth State as head men’s and women’s alpine ski coach in 1987, also has served as associate director of athletics and most recently as interim athletics director … Pittsburgh appointed Randy Juhl as acting athletics director. Juhl is a retired vice chancellor and dean emeritus of pharmacy. Pittsburgh Athletics Director Scott Barnes was named vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics at Oregon State. He had led the Pittsburgh athletics department since spring 2015 … Justin Carroll, associate vice chancellor for student affairs/dean of students and interim athletics director at Washington U. in St. Louis, announced his retirement, effective Feb. 1. Chris Peacock, currently deputy director of athletics, will serve as interim athletics director … Sacramento State appointed former Hornets head football coach John Volek to serve as interim director of athletics … Garry Killgore was selected to succeed longtime Linfield Director of Athletics Scott Carnahan at the end of the 2016-17 academic year. Killgore has served as Linfield's chair of the health, human performance and athletics department since 2010 and has taught in the department since his arrival in 1989. Carnahan has been athletics director for two decades and has served as head baseball coach during two tenures totaling 26 years.

Associate athletics directors — New Haven hired Jessica Roque as associate director of athletics for NCAA compliance and student welfare … Orville Jennings was promoted to associate athletics director for facilities and event operations. He had been the assistant athletics director for facilities and event operations since September 2015.

Assistant athletics directors — Oakland selected Fleetwood Fleming as assistant athletics director for development. Fleming will be responsible for the development, implementation and management of the department's fundraising plan and activities within the Golden Grizzlies Athletics Fund … Howard Richards, former Missouri football standout and current radio analyst for the Tiger Network, was hired as Missouri’s assistant athletics director for community relations. 


Baseball — Stan Manley will assume head coaching duties at his alma mater, Linfield, after this season concludes. Manley served as an assistant last season, working primarily with the infielders and behind the scenes as the program’s recruiting coordinator.

Men’s basketball — Morehead State head coach Sean Woods resigned. Assistant coach Preston Spradlin was named interim coach.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball — Sara Matthews was named head coach of the women’s team at Delaware. Matthews, a former player at James Madison and Kansas, served the last two seasons as an assistant coach at TCU.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field — Newberry hired Kimour Bruce as head coach of its new men’s and women’s track and field teams. The school last sponsored track and field in 1940. A seven-time national champion as a sprinter at Lincoln (Missouri), Bruce had served as an assistant coach at Coker since 2015.

Football — Eastern New Mexico promoted Kelley Lee [MP1] to head coach. Lee had served as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator since the 2012 season … Glenville State promoted offensive coordinator Eric Smith to head coach … Alvernia announced Ralph Clark as head coach of its new football program, which will begin play in fall 2018. Clark previously was defensive coordinator at Seton Hill … Olivet’s offensive and recruiting coordinator Dan Musielewicz was tapped as head coach. Musielewicz has spent the past five seasons as a member of the Olivet coaching staff.

Men’s and women’s golf — Bob Dibble, who has served as the men’s coach at Tusculum for the past 28 years and the women’s coach for 20 years, announced he would retire after the spring season.

Men’s and women’s soccer — Trevecca Nazarene women’s coach Mark Foster resigned. Foster, who played on the Trojan men’s team as a student-athlete, had been head coach since 2013. He was an assistant coach before that. Trevecca Nazarene selected Kelsey Fenix, a former Kentucky soccer player and former associate head coach at Lipscomb, as head coach of the women’s team … Bobby Desilets, head coach of the women’s team at Wentworth for five seasons, resigned to take a similar position at Wheaton (Massachusetts) … Joel Bancroft was hired as head coach of the Saint Anselm women’s program. Bancroft spent the past four seasons on the Massachusetts Lowell coaching staff, including the past three as the women’s head coach … Sian Hudson will be the next head women’s coach for Colorado-Colorado Springs. Hudson, who has 15 years of coaching experience, spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach for Colorado College … Brandon Heembrock was named head women’s coach at Fairmont State. Heembrock spent the past five seasons at Francis Marion, most recently as the assistant men’s coach … Limestone head women’s coach Matt Smith resigned to accept a position as an assistant with the women’s program at Baylor. Assistant coach Sam Holmes was named interim head coach at Limestone … Shenandoah selected Matt Smith [MP2] as head men’s coach. Smith led the men's program at Alfred for the past three seasons … Chris Grassie has been named head coach of Marshall’s men’s team. Grassie, who served as a graduate assistant at Marshall from 2004 to 2006, spent the past six seasons at Charleston (West Virginia), where he compiled a 99-20-8 record and his team reached the title game of the NCAA Division II men’s tournament in 2014 and 2016 … Former Charleston (West Virginia) assistant coach Sean Fraser was selected as head coach of the women's program at Lincoln Memorial. Fraser takes over for Helio D’Anna, who will coach the men’s program exclusively after serving as the head men’s and women’s coach at Lincoln Memorial for the past 14 seasons.

Wrestling — Millersville named Chris Yentzer interim head coach. Yentzer is in his third season as assistant coach of the Marauders.


The Patriot League hired Emily Parkins as director for championships and sport management. Parkins joined the league after spending two years at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis … Allie Kolezynski was named assistant commissioner for communications and operations at the Mountain East Conference. She previously spent four years as assistant athletics director/director of athletics communications at her alma mater, Chowan … Dan Coonan has been named Eastern College Athletic Conference president and CEO. Coonan has more than 20 years of senior administrative experience, including 11 years as director of athletics at Santa Clara.


Will Fulford, 29, an assistant cross country coach at the University of New England, died of apparent cardiac arrest Dec. 11 after running on a treadmill … Lexi Hastings, a freshman cross country runner at Northwestern Oklahoma State, died Dec. 29. She was 19 years old … Harry S. Downs, founding president of Clayton State, died Jan. 3 at age 91 … Jordan Hankins, a sophomore on the Northwestern women’s basketball team, was found dead in her room on campus Jan. 9. She was 19.
