Athletics directors – Texas A&M has announced that Eric Hyman, athletic director since 2012, will be leaving his position at the university. Hyman was formerly the athletic director at VMI, Miami (Ohio), TCU and South Carolina as well as the President of the IA Athletic Directors Association … Texas A&M announced that Scott Woodward will be the institution's new director of athletics.  Woodward comes to Texas A&M from Washington where he was the director of athletics since 2012 … Jennifer Cohen, senior associate athletic director at Washington, has been named interim athletic director. Cohen currently oversees the athletic department’s development efforts and has been with the UW for 15 years … Since 2014, Sean Loyd has worn the hats of both West Virginia State head baseball coach and athletic director. Loyd, who has won a pair of Mountain East Conference titles as baseball coach, stepped down from the athletics director job to focus on baseball. Nate Burton was named interim athletic director at West Virginia State … Matt Tanney, was named athletic director at Western Illinois. Tanney, who served as the interim athletic director since May 2015, joined the department as the associate director of athletics in July 2012 then was named deputy director of athletics in July 2014 … Tom O’Connor, former athletic director at George Mason, Loyola (Maryland), Santa Clara, St. Bonaventure, former chair of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee and president of Athletic Solutions Consulting, has agreed to become the director of athletics at Manhattan … New Mexico Highlands announced Bob Clifford as the new athletic director. Clifford comes to Highlands after spending 13 years at Oregon State ... Bret Butler has been named director of collegiate athletics and recreational sports at the Pittsburgh-Bradford, where he had been serving in an interim capacity since August. Butler, who has been head baseball coach for the past 17 seasons, will continue as coach until a decision is made about the future of that position … After working with Academy of Art athletics for the nearly nine years with the three most recent as director of athletics, Colin Preston resigned his position to become the director of athletics and kinesiology at El Camino College in Torrance, California … Matthew J. Robinson was named interim director of intercollegiate athletics and recreation services at Delaware. Robinson is a professor and director of the Sport Management Program in Delaware's Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics.

Associate athletics directors -- Russell Houghtaling was named associate athletics director and appointed to lead Oregon State’s newly created Ideation team. The Ideation team, the first of its kind at the college athletics level, will be an innovative and ambitious in-house creative ad agency for Oregon State Athletics. Its charge will be to improve and increase awareness about the Oregon State brand, its teams, student-athletes and coaches as well as Beaver Nation … Ricky Ray was named associate athletics director for marketing and promotions at Campbell … Debbie Harmison White, senior associate athletic director for external relations at Old Dominion, will retire in June after 36 years in the ODU athletic department. White joined the staff at ODU in 1979 as the assistant sports information director, and was promoted to sports information director the following year, playing a key role in the national exposure that both the men’s and women’s basketball programs enjoyed in the early 1980's … Janice Ruggiero was named New Mexico’s deputy athletic director for internal operations and senior woman administrator. She will also oversee men's basketball and women's basketball … Brad Hutchins was named New Mexico’s deputy athletic director for external operations. He will also oversee the sports of football and baseball … Kurt Esser was named New Mexico’s senior associate athletic director for sports administration. He will also oversee the sports of volleyball, beach volleyball, men's golf, women's golf, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field … Scott Dotson was named New Mexico’s senior associate athletic director for facilities … Kaley Espindola was named New Mexico’s senior  associate athletic director for administration. She will also oversee the sport of skiing … Drew Ingraham was named New Mexico’s associate athletic director for marketing and fan engagement … Ed Manzanares was named New Mexico’s associate athletic director for sports administration. He will also oversee the sports of men's and women's tennis, softball, men's soccer and women's soccer … Georgia Southern announced that director of golf Larry Mays was promoted to associate athletic director for external affairs. He will continue to raise money and create strategic initiatives to help fund the men's and women's golf programs and continue to serve as the sport supervisor for both programs. … Holy Cross department of athletics named Kirsten Britton as its new associate director of athletics for facilities, operations and events. Britton comes to Holy Cross after working at Connecticut since 2012, where she was the assistant director of athletics for event management.

Assistant athletic directors -- Jalen Dominguez was hired by New Mexico’s Lobo Club as assistant athletic director for development … Brian DeSpain was named New Mexico’s assistant athletic director for football operations … Brian Anken, a 12-year veteran head coach, was selected as the head men's lacrosse coach and assistant athletic director for facilities and logistics at Davis & Elkins College


Football – Tennessee Tech named Marcus Satterfield to lead its football program. Satterfield was Temple’s offensive coordinator last season … Kerwin Bell was named the new head coach at Valdosta State. Bell comes to the program from Jacksonville, where he led the Dolphins to a 66-35 record during his nine years as coach, including a 10-1 run in 2010 … Jacksonville hired Ian Shields as its new head coach. Shields spent two seasons as coach at Lenoir-Rhyne, where he compiled a 17-6 record and won a South Atlantic Conference championship. Lenoir-Rhyne named Mike Kellar to replace Shields. Kellar spent the past four seasons as head coach at California (Pennsylvania) and previously coached at Concord … After three seasons as head coach at Southern Mississippi, Todd Monken stepped down to become the offensive coordinator for the National Football League’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2015, Monken led the Golden Eagles to a 9-5 record and the school’s first bowl game in four seasons.

Football assistants -- Neal Neathery the defensive coordinator for the UTSA football team for the past six seasons, was named an assistant football coach at Eastern Michigan. He will serve as the team's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach … UTSA announced that Eric Henderson was hired as the Roadrunners' defensive line coach. Henderson comes to San Antonio from Oklahoma State, where he has served as a graduate assistant and quality control coach since 2013 … Jeff Kastl was hired as UTSA’s wide receivers coach. Kastl brings nine years of coaching experience to San Antonio, including a stint as offensive analyst at LSU in 2015 … Ryan Pugh was hired as UTSA’s offensive line coach. Pugh joins the UTSA staff after spending last year as a graduate assistant coach at LSU, where he worked on the same staff as head coach, Frank Wilson.

… UTSA hired Frank Scelfo as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. A coaching veteran of more than 30 years, Scelfo comes to San Antonio from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Women’s lacrosse -- Mackenzie Inman was named head women’s lacrosse coach at Olivet. Inman earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Olivet in 2015. As a freshman in 2011, she earned a varsity letter as a member of the volleyball team. She then made the switch to women’s lacrosse, earning three varsity letters.

Men’s soccer -- Chaminade announced the hiring of Jayson Abe as the new head coach for men’s soccer. Abe, the boys varsity soccer head coach at Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu, guided the Owls to three Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II championships during his six-year tenure … Mount Olive hired Sean Brennan as its new coach. Brennan previously served a three-year stint as assistant coach and goalkeepers coach for the Trojan men’s team and most recently was an associate coach at UNC Pembroke.

Men’s soccer assistants -- Duquesne announced the addition of Robert Spain to the men’s coaching staff. Spain, the former head coach at Pittsburgh-Greensburg, comes to Duquesne from Northern Illinois where he served as an assistant coach and goalkeepers coach this past season.

Softball – New Jersey City announced the resignation of head softball coach Jaci Timko to take the same position at Rider. New Jersey City promoted assistant coach Veronica Grant to head softball coach.

Men’s and women’s tennis -- Hofstra appointed Jeffrey Menaker to the position of director of tennis. Menaker comes to Hofstra after serving as the head coach of the men and women’s tennis programs at Lehman College.

Women’s volleyball – Canisius announced that Lenika Vazquez has been named women’s volleyball head coach. Vazquez, a Buffalo native who played her scholastic volleyball at City Honors, comes to Canisius after serving as an assistant coach at Butler for the previous four seasons.


Compliance -- Hawai'i-Hilo announced that Monica Morita was named NCAA compliance coordinator and senior woman administrator. Morita was the University of Hawai'i at Manoa's football staff executive assistant for the past two years.

Development -- Bucknell announced the hiring of Kyle Smith as manager of athletics development. A former student-athlete himself, Smith will work to identify and solicit donors to the Bison Club.

Equipment -- Lenny Brown was named VMI director of athletics equipment and  services. Brown replaces Jimmy Mason who served 35 years as VMI head equipment manager and retired following the conclusion of the 2015 football season.

Strength and conditioning – UTSA hired Ryan Filo as head football strength and conditioning coach. Filo comes to San Antonio after spending seven years in various roles on LSU's strength and conditioning staff, including the last nine months as the associate director. UTSA also named Spencer Ross as assistant football strength and  conditioning coach.

Deaths -- Former Butler basketball player Andrew Smith died January 12, after a long, public battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and later leukemia. He was 25. Butler players will wear a patch on their uniforms for rest of the season in Smith's honor, featuring his initials and jersey No. 44. The 6-11 Smith was a star at Covenant Christian but was not heavily recruited out of high school. He eventually accepted a scholarship offer to Butler before his senior season. He led Indiana high school players in rebounding in 2009 and was All-City Player of the Year. Smith, Matt Howard and Joel Cornette are the only three players in Butler history with more than 100 victories and 1,000 points in a career. Smith also was an academic All-American. Smith played little as a college freshman but came off the bench in the 2010 West Regional final against Kansas State after Howard encountered foul trouble. Smith had played a total of three minutes over the previous month but logged a season-high 12 minutes in a 63-56 victory that propelled the Bulldogs into their first Final Four.

Athletics directors --   Darron Boatright, chief operating officer of Wichita State Athletics, was named interim director of the department, with full responsibility for its teams, contracts and personnel. Boatright has been in athletics administration and coaching for 19 years, including the past five at Wichita State … Florida A&M Interim Director of Athletics FAMU Athletic Director Earl D'Wayne Robinson is no longer a part of the school’s athletics department … Wilberforce named Dorianne Johnson director of athletics … Mike Emendorfer will serve as the athletic director on an interim basis at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He will assume these duties in addition to his current responsibilities as head football coach … Indiana (Pennsylvania) announced the hiring of Steve Roach as the department’s new associate athletic director of compliance effective, February 18. Roach comes to IUP from Millersville where he spent the last five-and-a-half years in the same capacity … Lenoir-Rhyne announced that Neill McGeachy, executive director of intercollegiate athletics will retire, following 14 years of service. He also serves as executive director of the Piedmont Educational Foundation/Bears Club, the official fundraising arm of the LR department of athletics … After 29 years at the helm of the Western Connecticut State department of intercollegiate athletics, Ed Farrington announced his departure.  Since his arrival in 1986, Western's programs have made 62 NCAA Division III tournament appearances, led by the women's basketball's 12 showings … Indiana State director of athletics Ron Prettyman announced that he is stepping away from his position at the university. Prettyman joined the NCAA national office as a managing director in championships and alliances. Part of his duties is to oversee the Division I Men’s College World Series and the Division I FCS championship … Angie Lansing, currently assistant athletics director for business operations and senior woman administrator, was named interim director of intercollegiate athletics at Indiana State … Eric Ziady, director of intercollegiate athletics and recreation services at Delaware since 2012, announced that he is stepping down from his position … Daron Montgomery was selected as the new director of athletics at Saint Anselm. Montgomery served as the director of athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point since 2011, and has 17 years of experience in the field of collegiate athletics … Millersville announced the appointment of Miles Gallagher as the university's new director of athletics. Gallagher, a Millersville alumnus, served as the interim director of athletics since August … Joshua Looney, formerly associate director of Division II for the National Collegiate Athletic Association, was named director of athletics at East Stroudsburg. Looney, who has worked at the NCAA for the last four years, has been a member of the Division II leadership team responsible for the overarching support that DII institutions receive from the national office … Grove City named Todd Gibson as the college’s athletic director. Gibson, an assistant professor of exercise science and head men's and women's track and field coach, served as interim athletic director since last spring.

Associate athletic directors – Zach Flakus was named deputy director of athletics at Northern State. Flakus, who has worked at NSU for over 15 years, served as the associate director of athletics since 2013 … Dennis Bates assumed the role of associate athletic director/finance at Siena. He will be the primary administrator on all budget and finance related matters, including forecasting, budget management, business affairs, human resources and contract matters … Jason Rich was promoted to associate athletic director/communications and marketing at Siena. Rich joined the department staff in August of 1998 and had served as assistant athletic director for communications since November of 2007 … Mike Gentry, associate athletics director for athletic performance, retired in December from Virginia Tech. He will  continue to serve the Hokies in an advisory capacity through June 30 …  Myranda Nash was named Winona State's associate athletic director/senior woman administrator. Nash comes to Winona State from Brevard where she held  the same title since August of 2015 … Columbia University promoted Megan Au to associate athletics director for compliance, she has served on the Columbia athletics compliance staff for the past five years … Tim Lanski joined CSUN Athletics as the department's new associate athletic director for compliance. Lanski joins the Matadors after working in the compliance department at  Mississippi for more than three years.

Assistant athletics directors -- Ken Grant will serve as assistant athletic director/facilities for Siena. Grant served as assistant athletic director for business affairs since his hiring in December of 2008 … Matt Bussman was promoted to assistant athletics director for sports medicine after serving seven years as head athletics trainer, coordinating all aspects of the athletic training and sports medicine program. He came to Seattle U in July 2008 from Johns Hopkins University where he was the associate athletic trainer … David Dalfonso was named the assistant athletic director for media and communications for Illinois-Springfield. Dalfonso will handle all communication efforts for the department and UIS' 15 sports teams … Kathryn Mirance was named the assistant director of athletics for finance at Manhattan. Mirance arrives after working the last two-plus years as the assistant athletic business manager in the George Washington Athletic Department … Sara Allard accepted the position of assistant director of athletics for compliance at the University of San Diego. Sara has been with USD for over a year in the assistant director of compliance … Minnesota State announced that Shane Drahota was  named assistant director of athletics/compliance and  student services. Drahota rejoins Minnesota State after spending the last two and half years as the assistant athletic director for internal affairs at Wayne State (Nebraska) … Bringing over two decades of experience as an administrator and coach in collegiate athletics at several levels of competition, Daniel Huntley joined  the University of Mary as the assistant athletic director for internal operations.


Field hockey assistants – Holy Cross hired Hannah Richard as the program’s assistant coach. Richard comes to Holy Cross after serving as an assistant coach at Bucknell for the past two seasons.

Men’s Soccer -- Mount Olive head men’s soccer coach Godfrey Miller stepped down to pursue other opportunities. In 2015, Miller guided Mount Olive to a fourth-place finish in the Conference Carolinas standings, the Trojans’ best regular season finish in 10 years.

Women’s soccer -- Casey Brown was named head women’s soccer coach at Holy Cross. She comes to Worcester having served on the coaching staff at Boston University for the past three seasons.


Compliance – Martina Galinato joined the University of San Diego’s staff as the assistant director of compliance,

Eligibility coordinator -- Dan Scheid joined the Seattle University Redhawk staff as eligibility coordinator. Scheid joined the Seattle U athletics department in the fall of 2015 after serving as assistant director and director of compliance at Northern Colorado since 201.

Strength and conditioning -- S. Parker Brooks was hired to take over as FAMU’s head strength and conditioning coach … Alex Keough was promoted to senior coordinator of strength and conditioning at Seattle University, working directly with the men’s basketball, softball, and men’s and women’s golf teams. He previously served as a part-time assistant, graduate assistant, and graduate intern at Seattle U from 2009-12 UTSA hired Ryan Filo as head football strength and conditioning coach. Filo comes to San Antonio after spending seven years in various roles on LSU's strength and conditioning staff, including the last nine months as the associate director.
