Fraser hired as director of Division I

Jennifer Fraser, a former director of academic and membership affairs at the NCAA national office, will return to Indianapolis to serve as the new director of Division I governance.

Fraser, currently an assistant commissioner at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in Lakeville, Minn., left the national office in 2013 after supporting the Division I Committee on Academic Performance, where she played a significant role in that committee’s academic reform efforts.

As a primary staff liaison to the committee, Fraser helped implement a number of new policies, including the transition to new initial eligibility standards that take effect in 2016. She also was responsible for educating the membership and public on new rules and policies.

Fraser also has significant experience with the NCAA’s governance processes, having spent three years working in the national office’s Division II governance group. She began her career at the national office in the Eligibility Center, working in client relations.

"I'm humbled to be selected as the director of Division I Governance,” Fraser said. “I'm excited to support the staff and membership in achieving the established agenda and providing student-athletes with an exceptional, balanced experience."

Before joining the national office, Fraser was assistant athletic director and senior woman administrator at Metropolitan State College of Denver. She also spent time as the assistant commissioner and senior woman administrator at the California Collegiate Athletic Association. She holds a sociology degree from California State University, San Bernadino.

Kevin Lennon, vice president for Division I Governance, said Fraser’s breadth of experience made her the best candidate for the job.

“Jennifer’s time as a director in academic and membership affairs, coupled with her broad membership experience and exposure to many Association-wide issues, will serve her extremely well in her new role,” Lennon said. “Those who know and have worked with Jenn know she possesses a unique blend of energy, intellect and people skills. The entire Division I membership, including 175,000 student-athletes, will now benefit from her work in Division I governance.”

Fraser will start at the national office on May 26.
