Division II extends several blanket waivers

Administrative Committee continues to offer flexibility for prospective student-athletes

The Division II Administrative Committee on Wednesday extended several blanket waivers that were initially provided in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These waivers include permitting flexibility around committed prospective student-athletes’ participation in team meetings and team entertainment activities in the summer.

The committee voted to extend a blanket waiver to permit committed prospective student-athletes (those who have signed a National Letter of Intent or the institution’s written offer of admission and/or financial aid, or for whom the institution has received a financial deposit in response to its offer of admission) to participate in virtual team meetings and activities until the start of the school’s 2021-22 academic year. This waiver excludes participation by any individual outside of current student-athletes and school staff members (e.g., boosters and alumni cannot be present), and the meetings and activities cannot involve physical activity.

The committee also extended a waiver allowing committed prospective student-athletes and current student-athletes to participate in voluntary team entertainment activities at the direction of a coaching staff member until the start of the school’s 2021 fall term. These activities also cannot include physical activity. 

Additionally, the committee voted to end a blanket waiver that allowed prospective student-athletes to provide a grade report or some form of academic record in the event an unofficial transcript was not available before issuance of a National Letter of Intent or written offer of athletics aid as of the start of the school’s 2021-22 academic year. If an unofficial transcript is not available, an institution can submit a waiver for review on a case-by-case basis.

The Administrative Committee is made up of the chairs and vice chairs of the Division II Presidents Council and Management Council and one additional member of the Presidents Council. The committee is tasked with handling important Division II business in between quarterly meetings of the Presidents Council.
