NCAA Position

The recruiting process must balance the interests of prospective student-athletes and the Association’s member institutions. The NCAA recruiting bylaw is designed to promote equity among member schools in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes and to shield the recruited individuals from undue pressures that may interfere with their scholastic or athletics interests.

2011-12 Division II Other Sports Recruiting Calendar

NCAA Division II Dead Periods in Sports Other Than Football and Basketball June 1, 2011 through May 31, 2012

[Note: During the dead period immediately preceding the initial National Letter of Intent signing date, the National Letter of Intent cannot be hand-delivered; it must be mailed.]

  • Field Hockey, Soccer, Cross Country/Track and Field, Men's Water Polo
    • January 30 (7 a.m.) through February 1, 2012, (7 a.m.) (during the 48-hours prior to 7 a.m. on the initial date for the spring signing of the National Letter of Intent).
  • Men's Lacrosse
    • November 7 (7 a.m.) through November 9, 2011, (7 a.m.), (during the 48-hours prior to 7 a.m. on the initial date for the fall signing of the National Letter of Intent).
    • November 30 through December 5, 2011 (noon), (the Wednesday before the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association Clinic through Monday following the clinic).
    • April 9 (7 a.m.) through April 11, 2012, (7 a.m.) (during the 48-hours prior to 7 a.m. on the initial date for the spring signing of the National Letter of Intent).
    • May 24 through May 29, 2012, (noon), (Thursday before the NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship through noon Tuesday after the championship).
  • All Other Sports
    • November 7 (7 a.m.) through November 9, 2011, (7 a.m.) (during the 48-hours prior to 7 a.m. on the initial date for the fall signing of the National Letter of Intent).
    • April 9 (7 a.m.) through April 11, 2012, (7 a.m.) (during the 48-hours prior to 7 a.m. on the initial date for the spring signing of the National Letter of Intent).
    • Exception: U.S. Diving National Championships (Bylaw 13.17.4.1.1)
      • When the dead period for recruiting occurs during the U.S. Diving National Championships, it shall be permissible to observe prospects participating in that event.
