NCAA Position

The recruiting process must balance the interests of prospective student-athletes and the Association’s member institutions. The NCAA recruiting bylaw is designed to promote equity among member schools in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes and to shield the recruited individuals from undue pressures that may interfere with their scholastic or athletics interests.

2011-12 Division I Other Sports Recruiting Calendars

NCAA Division I Dead and Quiet Periods in Sports For Which No Recruiting Calendar Has Been Established August 1, 2011 through July 31, 2012

Women's Gymnastics Dead Periods

  • November 7-10, 2011, (during the period Monday through Thursday of the initial week for the fall signing of the National Letter of Intent).
  • April 9-12, 2012, (during the period Monday through Thursday of the initial week for the spring signing of the National Letter of Intent).
  • April 19-23 (noon), 2012, (the day before the first day of the Division I Women’s Gymnastics Championships to noon on the day after the championships).

Men’s Ice Hockey Dead Periods

  • November 7-10, 2011, (during the period Monday through Thursday of the initial week for the fall signing of the National Letter of Intent).
  • April 9-12, 2012, (during the period Monday through Thursday of the initial week for the spring signing of the National Letter of Intent).
  • April 4-8 (noon), 2012, (Wednesday prior to the Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship to noon on the Sunday after the game).

Women’s Ice Hockey Dead and Quiet Periods

  • November 7-10, 2011, (during the period Monday through Thursday of the initial week for the fall signing of the National Letter of Intent)
  • March 15-19 (noon), 2012, (the day prior to the Division I Women's Ice Hockey Championship to noon on the day after the game).
  • April 9-12, 2012, (during the period Monday through Thursday of the initial week for the spring signing of the National Letter of Intent).
  • April 23 through May 31 2012, is considered a quiet period. [Monday prior to the American Hockey Coaches Association Convention (April 26-29)].

Field Hockey Dead Periods

  • November 16-21 (noon), 2011, (Wednesday prior to the Division I Field Hockey Championship to noon on the day after the game).
  • January 30 through February 2, 2012, (during the period Monday through Thursday of the initial week for the signing of the National Letter of Intent).

Soccer and Men’s Water Polo Dead Periods

  • January 30 through February 2, 2012, (during the period Monday through Thursday of the initial week for the signing of the National Letter of Intent).

All Other Sports Dead Periods

  • November 7-10, 2011, (during the period Monday through Thursday of the initial week for the fall signing of the National Letter of Intent).
  • April 9-12, 2012, (during the period Monday through Thursday of the initial week for the spring signing of the National Letter of Intent).

      Exceptions:

    • U.S. Diving National Championships (Bylaw 13.17.11.1.1.1): When the dead period for recruiting occurs during the U.S. Diving National Championships, it shall be permissible for authorized coaching staff members to observe prospective student-athletes participating in that event.
    • North American Cup Fencing Championship (Bylaw 13.17.11.1.1.2): When the dead period for recruiting occurs during the North American Cup Fencing Championship, it shall be permissible for authorized coaching staff members to observe prospective student-athletes participating in that event.
