Bren Stevens, associate athletics director and senior woman administrator at Charleston (West Virginia), has been elected vice chair of the Division II Management Council.
Stevens’ term will begin Sept. 1. She will replace Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Commissioner Butch Raymond. The Division II Presidents Council ratified her election Thursday.
As vice chair, Stevens automatically becomes a member of the Division II Championships Committee.
In addition to service on the Division II Management Council, Stevens also has served on the Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports and the Management Council’s Identity Subcommittee.
Stevens also is volleyball coach at Charleston and has served five years on volleybal’s Atlantic and Great Lakes Regional Advisory Committees. She currently is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association head coaches committee and serves on the AVCA’s hall of fame selection committee. She also is involved in an AVCA mentoring program.
Stevens, a Charleston graduate, has worked with the university’s athletics program for 18 years. Her volleyball record stands at 470-183 (.720) and she ranks 15th in wins among active Division II coaches. Her teams have made seven NCAA tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 1998. She was West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coach of the year in 1995, 1997 and 2001.
Stevens’ teams also have succeeded in the classroom, having earned AVCA Academic All-America status each of the last three years.
Besides her administrative duties, Stevens also teaches in Charleston’s sports administration program.
In addition to her undergraduate degree from Charleston, Stevens possesses a master’s degree from Marshall and a Ph.D. from Lacrosse University.
