NCAA Legislation

Like all decisions that affect NCAA member schools and their student-athletes, committees form and pass legislative decisions that impact health and safety issues. New health and wellness initiatives can originate within any committee, such as each sport’s playing rules committee. But most recommended health and safety legislation originates from the committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports (CSMAS), which is comprised of 20 institutional representatives from sports medicine, athletics administration, coaching, education, law and NCAA student-athletes. The Sport Science Institute helps share knowledge and research to ensure informed decisions and policies.
