Division III Husson University, located in Bangor, Me., will add women’s outdoor track during the 2011-12 academic year and women’s indoor track in 2012-13 to boost the school’s offerings to 16 varsity sports.
Husson will have added five sports over six years at that time. The others are women’s cross country, women’s lacrosse and men’s lacrosse.
“In an era when so many athletics departments are dropping sports and cutting budgets, Husson continues to add and enhance opportunities for all our students-athletes, and particularly our female student-athletes,” said Athletics Director Bob Reasso.
Reasso said Husson’s new head track coach will be a full-time employee charged with building the track program from the ground up.
“Since we are planning on competing in the 2011-12 academic year, we want to give our head coach the best opportunity to be successful, so we will launch our search immediately and want to have someone in place as quickly as possible,” he said.
