Infractions

The NCAA enforcement program is intended to reduce violations of NCAA legislation and to impose appropriate penalties if violations occur. The program is committed to the fairness of procedures and to the timely and equitable resolution of infractions cases.

An important consideration in imposing penalties is to provide fairness to uninvolved student-athletes, coaches, administrators, competitors and other institutions.

The Divisions I, II and III Committees on Infractions are composed of primarily of individuals from NCAA member institutions. The committees are responsible for determining whether rules infractions occurred and, if so, what penalties should be applied.

The NCAA enforcement services staff is responsible for investigating violations of the rules. No staff member sits on any of the three infractions committees, and no staff member influences the committee’s judgments once evidence is presented.
