NCAA Sportsmanship Award

The NCAA Sportsmanship Award honors student-athletes who, through their actions in the competitive arena of intercollegiate athletics, have demonstrated one or more of the ideals of sportmanship, including fairness,civility, honesty, unselfishness, respect and responsibility. Selections are made by the NCAA Committee on Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct. This award was first presented in 1999 as the Outstanding Sports Persons of the Year Award. The award was renamed the NCAA Sportsmanship Award in 2001.

Nomination Guidelines

Nomination Criteria

  1. Nominee must have demonstrated consistently good sportsmanship and ethical behavior in his/her daily participation in intercollegiate athletics.
  2. Student-athlete must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
  3. Student-athlete must be in good academic standing.
  4. Student-athlete or team nominee must be a member of an intercollegiate athletics team during of the 2008-09 academic year.
  5. A team may be considered as a nominee if extraordinary circumstances exist, otherwise, only individual will be considered.
  6. Any nomination form faxed to the national office must be followed by a signed original copy carrying original signatures.
