Quinnipiac will cut golf, men’s outdoor track and volleyball at the end of 2008-09 due to economic challenges.
In a memo to staff, Athletics Director Jack McDonald said the decision was “extremely difficult.”
“A variety of scenarios were explored to continue to provide gender-equitable and competitive opportunities for the greatest number of male and female student-athletes in these fiscally challenging times,” McDonald wrote in the memo. “The student-athletes, coaches and staff associated with all of the affected programs have continually represented Quinnipiac in the highest manner possible, both on and off the field of competition.”
The school elevated cheerleading to varsity status.
