The USA South Athletic Conference is conducting an educational summit next week in Raleigh, North Carolina, focusing on hazing and social-networking sites.

Student-athletes, coaches and administrators from USA South institutions will participate in the event November 13-14 on the campus of league member Peace.

The two-day event will feature keynote speaker Janet Judge, a sports law attorney who was among participants in the 2008 NCAA Convention summit on hazing. Judge will discuss legal issues arising from that topic and from use of social-networking sites.

Attendees also will participate in a day-long workshop focusing on the summit’s subjects.

“We’re funding this event with our Tier II conference grant for student-athlete well-being,” said USA South Commissioner Rita Wiggs, referring to a component of the Division III Strategic Initiatives Grant Program. “We’re also tying it in with our CHAMPS/Life Skills Program.

“I think it’s going to be a very good weekend, because our speakers and facilitators are excellent at what they do,” she added. “I think it will be fun for the student-athletes but also a very good educational experience.”
