2010 Career in Sports Forum
The NCAA Career in Sports Forum (Forum) is a four day event through which selected student-athletes will explore and be educated on careers in sports, with a primary focus on collegiate athletics. This Forum will be provided to participants at no cost. The NCAA will cover airfare, lodging and meals during the Forum. Through the use of dual tracks, participants will examine the key functions of a coach or administrator within sports. Foundational skills such as communication, networking, recruiting, managing culture, transitioning and budgeting will be covered with participants.
The Forum will be conducted in a two year rotation for NCAA sponsored sports, with the inaugural Forum open to student-athletes who have interest in coaching the sports of: Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Football, Gymnastics, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming and Diving, Track and Field, Volleyball, and Wrestling. The administrator track will cover the areas of: Academics, Compliance, Facilities, Life Skills, Marketing and Promotions and Sports Information.
The bylaws for Division I and Division II require the following stipulations for nominating student-athletes (SA) for the coaching portion of the Forum. The SA needs to have completed his/her third year (sixth semester or ninth quarter) of collegiate enrollment to be eligible to attend the program, but does not need to be enrolled in his/her fourth year in order to be eligible to participate. This means that the SA would be required to have completed his/her final examinations in order to attend (or whatever other measure the SA’s institution uses to determine completion of a term of enrollment for a specific term). A SA’s eligibility for the program would not have to be based on the conclusion of the term at the institutional level (e.g., commencement ceremony) but rather the conclusion of the term for the individual SA.
Division III and the administrator track have no requirements.
The Forum will take place May 11-14, 2010, at the Downtown Marriott in Indianapolis, Indiana.
