Sportsmanship

University of Virginia players help console a Wyoming player who missed an extra point that gave Virginia a victory in 2006.Welcome to the NCAA's sportsmanship and ethical conduct Web page. The Committee on Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct has attempted to bring together a variety of resources that will allow administrators, student-athletes, coaches or support groups to engage others in the development of a positive sporting environment for intercollegiate athletics. It is not by accident that sportsmanship has become such a defining value in intercollegiate athletics. The NCAA was founded in an attempt to address unsportsmanlike acts that were costing the loss of student-athlete lives. Today, values such as respect, caring, fairness, civility, honesty, integrity, and responsibility are the focus for the committee.

Contained within this section of the Web site are:

  • Information on the Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Committee and its charge
  • Past videos, posters and other educational resources.
  • Past sportsmanship presentations clips.
  • A sportsmanship toolkit that brings to the administrator's touch valuable resources and suggestions.
  • A feedback section that enables visitors to provide the committee with witnessed accounts of positive or negative sportsmanship acts.
