National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week is October 20-26, and the NCAA is encouraging member institutions to provide time for student-athletes to discuss alcohol and its role in their lives.

With funding from the Century Council and in collaboration with David Anderson, associate professor and director of the Center for the Advancement of Public Health at George Mason University, the NCAA has developed a facilitator's guide for "Speak Up!" a program designed to gather student-athlete input.

"Speak Up!" tool kits were mailed to all NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills coordinators in October 2001 for last year's National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, and campus student-athlete advisory committees are encouraged to discuss the issue.
