Division II and Division III health and safety summits

On Oct. 21 - 22, the NCAA Sport Science Institute hosted an assembly of presidents, directors of athletics, team physicians, athletic trainers, coaches and student-athletes for the first health and safety summits targeted specifically for Divisions II and III. Held at the NCAA’s national office in Indianapolis, the events included presentations by Brian Hainline, the NCAA chief medical officer, Dr. and the director of SSI, John Parsons, as well as associate director of SSI, Mary Wilfert, on current NCAA health and safety priorities.

Division II met Tuesday, Oct. 20, and Division III convened Wednesday, Oct. 21. The summits focused on a series of round table conversations in which participants discussed the impact of concussion, cardiac health, mental health, and doping and recreation drug use in their specific divisions. The events each concluded with an open dialogue on the future of health and safety on their respective campuses.
