Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

Thank you and Welcome to the Division II National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Home Page! We are excited that you have decided to take the time to visit our site. Our committee truly hopes that you find our site to be helpful.

To give you a brief background about DII SAAC, we are a committee consisting of the 24 Division II multi-sport voting conferences, one representative of Division II independent institutions, and two at-large representatives. Additionally, two members of the Management Council and one member of the Presidents Council will serve as ex-officio and nonvoting members.

Our members serve as student-athlete liaisons between the happenings on campus, conference and national levels. Members are selected by the Division II SAAC Nominating Sub-Committee from a diverse pool of candidates submitted by the conference office. The Division II Management Council ratify the appointment and each student-athlete serves a non-renewable 3-year term; however the student-athlete may only serve up to one year after exhausting their eligibility.

Each representative is responsible for gathering feedback and reporting out on behalf of their conference, as well as relaying important events, hot topics and educational information to both the campus and conference levels. In addition to relaying information across campuses and conferences, DII SAAC speaks on the behalf of the entire DII student-athlete body throughout the NCAA governance structure.

Currently, one representative from the DII National SAAC may sit on a multitude of Division II and association-wide committees in order to provide the student-athlete perspective on related issues. It is through these mechanisms that the NCAA Division II student-athlete offer input to assist in shaping the proposed legislation and other policies by which their division is governed.

The DII National SAAC works very hard to represent the voice of the Division II student-athlete. Our committee takes great pride in the well-being of all student-athletes, and we hope that our site will serve as a useful resource for everyone.

Thank you for stopping by, and we hope you enjoy your visit to our Web site!

Best Regards,
DII SAAC

Make-A-Wish Foundation

Led by the Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Division II schools raised $517,465 for the Make-A-Wish campaign during 2012-13, besting the previous year’s efforts by almost $50,000 and setting a Division II fundraising record.

Since beginning its alliance with Make-A-Wish in 2003, Division II has raised more than $3 million toward granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. These wishes can serve as a game changer in children’s fights against their illnesses, helping them feel better, and in some cases even get better.

“The strength and determination that these children possess is something that can be attained only by going through the challenges they face,” said Bradley Maldonado, Lincoln Memorial cross country student-athlete and chair of the DII SAAC. “It’s inspiring and gives us a greater appreciation of life. Personally, it makes me work harder in everything I do.”

More than 240 schools from all 24 Division II conferences participated, including 100 percent participation from five conferences: the East Coast Conference, Gulf South Conference,Heartland Conference, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and South Atlantic Conference.

For 2013-14, Make-A-Wish is adding a matching incentive to Division II’s fundraising efforts. Every dollar a DII school raises beyond its 2012-13 total will be matched, up to $1,000 per school.
