Wisconsin-La Crosse records 13th title

2015 Division III Men’s Outdoor Track and Field

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men’s track and field team captured its 13th national title May 23 at St. Lawrence University. The Eagles triumphed easily – their closest opponent, in-state rival University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, finished 25 points behind. For head coach Josh Buchholtz, though, it was just another day at the office.

“We’ll go out and try to do it again next year, and that’s our philosophy here,” Buchholtz told the La Crosse Tribune after the meet. “Any young man that comes into our program knows that we want to win titles, and we’re going to celebrate that as long as I am coach here.”

The Eagles 4x100 meter relay team – Ross Denman, Alex Koenen, Zach Rothering and Joe Koenecke – set a track record of 40.28 seconds en route to capturing its own national title. Buchholtz attributes the Eagles’ domination to their ability to avoid distractions on the long road to the championship.

“The way they came together and stayed focused is amazing,” Buchholtz said to the La Crosse Tribune. “It’s a long way between La Crosse and Canton, New York, and it’s pretty impressive that they could keep their focus.”
