Athletics directors

Lake Erie appointed Kelley Kish as director of athletics, effective Nov. 13. Kish is currently the associate director of athletics at Nova Southeastern … Don DiJulia announced he will retire as Saint Joseph’s vice president and director of athletics at the end of the current academic year. He said he will remain with the university as necessary to ensure a smooth transition for his successor. The 2017-18 academic year marks DiJulia’s 50th in college athletics and his 35th as Saint Joseph’s athletics director over two terms, from 1976 to 1981 and then from 1988 to the present … Alabama State announced Deputy Director of Athletics Jennifer Lynne Williams will move into the role of interim director of athletics with the resignation of Melvin Hines. Williams, in her second year at Alabama State, has more than a decade of experience in athletics administration. Hines, who was named director of athletics in September 2015, served as interim director of athletics for three years … Central Oklahoma announced Eddie Griffin will return to his alma mater as director of athletics. Griffin’s previous positions include president of the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and Jim Thorpe Association, athletics director for Oklahoma City Public Schools, athletics director at Northeastern State and head wrestling coach at Clemson.

Assistant athletics directors

Samantha Hegmann was added to Hofstra’s compliance staff as assistant director of athletics for NCAA education and compliance services.


Men’s and women’s lacrosse

Hilbert named Emily Pasternak head coach of its women’s team. Pasternak has coached at various high school levels and created the nonprofit Breaking Borders Lacrosse organization, which provides lacrosse coaches and players the opportunity to coach underprivileged youth in the United States and abroad.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving

Rob Brownell was named head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach at Olivet. Brownell had served as head swimming and diving coach at Battle Creek Central High School in Michigan since 2005.


The Big South Conference hired Shelley Davis as senior associate commissioner. Davis has served as deputy athletics director at Howard for the past two years.

Presidents and chancellors

Seth Bodnar was named president of Montana, subject to board of regents approval in November. Bodnar, an Army West Point graduate who completed a distinguished military career, is expected to assume the presidency Jan. 1. He currently is a senior executive at General Electric Co.

Athletics directors

Louisville named Vincent Tyra as acting director of athletics, effective immediately. Tyra is an operating partner for Southfield Capital and an advisor to ISCO Industries Inc., where he was formerly the president.


Men’s basketball

University of South Carolina Upstate head coach Eddie Payne is stepping down. Payne, who has led the Spartans for 15 seasons, had the second of two ankle replacements during the summer. He said standing on his feet for long periods is painful. Payne has been an NCAA head basketball coach for 31 years, including 15 at USC Upstate.


Kathleen L’Abbe, who has served for the past three seasons as an assistant softball coach at Massachusetts Maritime, was promoted to head coach.


Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner Christopher Ragsdale announced he will retire June 30, 2018. Ragsdale is completing his 10th year with the conference.

Presidents and chancellors

Janet Dudley-Eshbach, president of Salisbury, announced she will step down next summer. Dudley-Eshbach was appointed Salisbury’s president in 2000, the first woman to hold the office. She will serve as a special advisor to the university and will assist with the transition during a sabbatical year that begins July 1, 2018. She plans to resume service as an active member of the faculty beginning with the 2019-20 academic year … Karen Scolforo was appointed president of Castleton. Scolforo most recently served as president of Central Penn College in Summerdale, Pennsylvania … Oklahoma President David L. Boren announced that he plans to retire after this school year. His retirement will take effect June 30, unless a permanent successor has not been named by that time, in which case he will remain as president until his successor has been named. Upon his retirement, he will have served as Oklahoma’s president for over 23 years.

Athletics directors

Bruce McCutcheon, who has served as Lafayette’s director of athletics since 2001, has announced his plans to retire, ending a nearly three-decade association with the Leopards’ athletics program. McCutcheon has agreed to remain in his role until his replacement is hired.

Associate athletics directors

Mississippi State promoted Rob Jenkins to associate athletics director for development. Jenkins joined the Mississippi State University Foundation fundraising staff in 2006.



Norfolk State head coach Claudell Clark resigned to accept a position as director of development for Norfolk Festevents. Clark was Norfolk State’s head coach for 13 years and also was assistant athletics director for external affairs the past two. Assistant coach Keith Shumate was selected as interim head coach.

Men’s basketball

Wisconsin-Superior named Greg Polkowski interim head coach. Polkowski replaces Paul Eberhardt, who resigned the position last week. Eberhardt will remain on staff as head men’s golf coach. Polkowski, who played on the Yellowjacket team from 2004 until 2008, spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Women’s basketball

Ohio Valley head coach Jazmone Turner announced she is leaving her position to take a job as associate head coach at Coppin State. Turner became interim head coach at Ohio Valley in November 2015 and was named head coach at the end of that season.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field

Lauren Reimer, who served as the full-time assistant women’s track and field coach last season at Cal State San Bernardino, has been named head coach.


Southwestern Oklahoma State head coach Dan Cocannouer announced he will retire after the 2017 season, his ninth leading the Bulldogs. Cocannouer played at Southwestern Oklahoma State from 1974 to 1977, helping the Bulldogs to conference titles in 1974 and 1977.

Men’s and women’s golf

Metropolitan State University of Denver hired Stefanie Ferguson as head coach of the women’s team. Ferguson was a Division I collegiate golfer at Colorado State. She currently works as a lead teaching professional for ExperienceGolf.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey

Neumann promoted Kyle Mountain to head men’s coach. Mountain spent two years as an assistant coach for the Knights.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse

Post named Anthony Fitti as its new head men’s lacrosse coach. Fitti most recently served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Massachusetts Boston

Men’s and women’s soccer

Jeremy Vann resigned as the head coach of the men’s team at Rockford after more than five seasons. Louis Mateus will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Mateus currently serves as the general manager of the Mercyhealth Sportscore Complex. He is also the technical advisor for the United States Soccer Federation and a co-founder of the Rockford Raptors Soccer Club.


Amy Delmore has returned to Queens (New York) for her second stint as the program’s head coach. Delmore spent three seasons at the helm (2013-15) before departing to join the New York City Fire Department Training Academy … Emily Kaczmarek, assistant athletics director at Stevens Institute of Technology and an assistant coach for the school from 2013 to 2015, was named head coach. Kaczmarek will continue in her role as assistant athletics director for administration, a post she has held since spring 2015.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball

Immaculata hired Jill Holdren as coach of its new men’s team, which will begin competition during the 2018-19 academic year. Holdren has been coach of the Immaculata women’s team since the 2014 season.


Muhlenberg head coach Shaun Lally resigned.


Darryl Konicki was appointed assistant commissioner of the Little East Conference. Konicki will serve as the primary communications representative and media contact for the conference. He currently serves as sports information director at Arcadia.
