Presidents and chancellors

Seth Bodnar was named president of Montana, subject to board of regents approval in November. Bodnar, an Army West Point graduate who completed a distinguished military career, is expected to assume the presidency Jan. 1. He currently is a senior executive at General Electric Co.

Athletics directors

Louisville named Vincent Tyra as acting director of athletics, effective immediately. Tyra is an operating partner for Southfield Capital and an advisor to ISCO Industries Inc., where he was formerly the president.

Coaches

Men’s basketball

University of South Carolina Upstate head coach Eddie Payne is stepping down. Payne, who has led the Spartans for 15 seasons, had the second of two ankle replacements during the summer. He said standing on his feet for long periods is painful. Payne has been an NCAA head basketball coach for 31 years, including 15 at USC Upstate.

Softball

Kathleen L’Abbe, who has served for the past three seasons as an assistant softball coach at Massachusetts Maritime, was promoted to head coach.

Conferences

Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner Christopher Ragsdale announced he will retire June 30, 2018. Ragsdale is completing his 10th year with the conference.

Presidents and chancellors

Janet Dudley-Eshbach, president of Salisbury, announced she will step down next summer. Dudley-Eshbach was appointed Salisbury’s president in 2000, the first woman to hold the office. She will serve as a special advisor to the university and will assist with the transition during a sabbatical year that begins July 1, 2018. She plans to resume service as an active member of the faculty beginning with the 2019-20 academic year … Karen Scolforo was appointed president of Castleton. Scolforo most recently served as president of Central Penn College in Summerdale, Pennsylvania … Oklahoma President David L. Boren announced that he plans to retire after this school year. His retirement will take effect June 30, unless a permanent successor has not been named by that time, in which case he will remain as president until his successor has been named. Upon his retirement, he will have served as Oklahoma’s president for over 23 years.

Athletics directors

Bruce McCutcheon, who has served as Lafayette’s director of athletics since 2001, has announced his plans to retire, ending a nearly three-decade association with the Leopards’ athletics program. McCutcheon has agreed to remain in his role until his replacement is hired.

Associate athletics directors

Mississippi State promoted Rob Jenkins to associate athletics director for development. Jenkins joined the Mississippi State University Foundation fundraising staff in 2006.

Coaches

Baseball

Norfolk State head coach Claudell Clark resigned to accept a position as director of development for Norfolk Festevents. Clark was Norfolk State’s head coach for 13 years and also was assistant athletics director for external affairs the past two. Assistant coach Keith Shumate was selected as interim head coach.

Men’s basketball

Wisconsin-Superior named Greg Polkowski interim head coach. Polkowski replaces Paul Eberhardt, who resigned the position last week. Eberhardt will remain on staff as head men’s golf coach. Polkowski, who played on the Yellowjacket team from 2004 until 2008, spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Women’s basketball

Ohio Valley head coach Jazmone Turner announced she is leaving her position to take a job as associate head coach at Coppin State. Turner became interim head coach at Ohio Valley in November 2015 and was named head coach at the end of that season.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field

Lauren Reimer, who served as the full-time assistant women’s track and field coach last season at Cal State San Bernardino, has been named head coach.

Football

Southwestern Oklahoma State head coach Dan Cocannouer announced he will retire after the 2017 season, his ninth leading the Bulldogs. Cocannouer played at Southwestern Oklahoma State from 1974 to 1977, helping the Bulldogs to conference titles in 1974 and 1977.

Men’s and women’s golf

Metropolitan State University of Denver hired Stefanie Ferguson as head coach of the women’s team. Ferguson was a Division I collegiate golfer at Colorado State. She currently works as a lead teaching professional for ExperienceGolf.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey

Neumann promoted Kyle Mountain to head men’s coach. Mountain spent two years as an assistant coach for the Knights.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse

Post named Anthony Fitti as its new head men’s lacrosse coach. Fitti most recently served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Massachusetts Boston

Men’s and women’s soccer

Jeremy Vann resigned as the head coach of the men’s team at Rockford after more than five seasons. Louis Mateus will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Mateus currently serves as the general manager of the Mercyhealth Sportscore Complex. He is also the technical advisor for the United States Soccer Federation and a co-founder of the Rockford Raptors Soccer Club.

Softball

Amy Delmore has returned to Queens (New York) for her second stint as the program’s head coach. Delmore spent three seasons at the helm (2013-15) before departing to join the New York City Fire Department Training Academy … Emily Kaczmarek, assistant athletics director at Stevens Institute of Technology and an assistant coach for the school from 2013 to 2015, was named head coach. Kaczmarek will continue in her role as assistant athletics director for administration, a post she has held since spring 2015.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball

Immaculata hired Jill Holdren as coach of its new men’s team, which will begin competition during the 2018-19 academic year. Holdren has been coach of the Immaculata women’s team since the 2014 season.

Wrestling

Muhlenberg head coach Shaun Lally resigned.

Conferences

Darryl Konicki was appointed assistant commissioner of the Little East Conference. Konicki will serve as the primary communications representative and media contact for the conference. He currently serves as sports information director at Arcadia.

Athletics directors

Texas Permian Basin hired Scott Farmer as athletics director. Farmer previously served as athletics director at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette … Dave Rimington, a two-time All-American who played for Nebraska, was named interim athletics director at his alma mater. Rimington will take a leave of absence from his job as president of the New York-based Boomer Esiason Foundation. Rimington replaces Shawn Eichorst.

Associate athletics directors

Oregon State promoted Kyle Bjornstad to associate athletics director/chief of staff and Jacque Bruns to associate athletics director/chief financial officer … The College of Charleston promoted Laura Lageman to senior associate athletics director and senior woman administrator after serving as associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator. She is currently in her 29th season with the Cougars. The college also promoted Otto German to associate athletics director for compliance from assistant director of athletics/NCAA compliance … Rutgers hired Ryan Gottlieb as associate athletics director for sales strategy and business intelligence. Gottlieb had served as director of sales and service at Georgia Tech since 2014 … Johns Hopkins named Jennifer Baker to the newly created position of senior associate director of athletics. Baker previously was senior manager of corporate real estate, facilities and operations at Under Armour … Mathew Shanklin was promoted to associate athletics director of marketing at LSU. Shanklin has been assistant athletics director of marketing at LSU for the past seven years … Concordia Portland hired Jessica Harbison Weaver as associate athletics director for compliance and academic support/senior woman administrator. Weaver had been assistant athletics director for compliance at UC Riverside since June 2016.

Assistant athletics directors

Oregon State promoted Tyler Greulich to assistant athletics director for facilities and event operations … The College of Charleston promoted Kate Tiller to assistant athletics director for student-athlete academic services and Weston Ijames to assistant athletics director for business operations. Tiller has been a staff member of the student-athlete academic services department since October 2008. Ijames has been director of business operations since February 2014.

Coaches

Baseball assistants

Canisius selected former Golden Griffin pitcher Brandon Bielecki as an assistant coach. He previously served on the staffs at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, and Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, New York … Hofstra appointed Matt Wessinger as an assistant coach. Wessinger spent the 2017 season as a volunteer assistant coach at St. John’s (New York).

Men’s basketball

David Padgett, a member of the Louisville basketball staff for the past three years and a former three-year starter at center for the Cardinals, was named acting head men’s coach at his alma mater. Padgett was Louisville’s director of basketball operations for two seasons (2014-16) before his move to an assistant coaching position in 2016.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field

Chris Wood will be head coach of Lynn’s new men’s cross country and track and field teams, which will begin competition during the 2018-19 academic year. Wood is currently head coach for the women’s cross country and track and field teams.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse

Wilmington (Ohio) hired Taylor Martin as head coach of the women’s team. Martin previously served as a graduate assistant coach at Castleton.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistants

Washington and Lee appointed Will Corrigan as assistant coach of the men’s team.

Softball

Steve Wammer was named head coach at Ripon. Wammer spent 15 years as head coach at Northland.

Deaths

Clayton Geib, a senior chemistry major and football player at Wooster, died Sept. 17. Geib, 21, was transported to the hospital after complaining of feeling poorly after a football game versus Ohio Wesleyan … Former Purdue football coach Joe Tiller, 74, died Sept. 30. Tiller was head coach at Purdue from 1997 to 2008 and was the winningest coach in school history, with an 87-62 record.
