Claremont-Mudd-Scripps sweeps tennis titles

2015 Division III Men’s Tennis

Gold is one of Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges’ school colors. In the end, it suited Warren Wood nicely, as the Stags senior ended his career with a stellar performance, leading his team to a sweep of Middlebury College in the team finals of the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship on May 23 in Mason, Ohio.

Wood also won the individual singles championship, defeating teammate Skyler Butts in the final. Plus, Wood teamed with fellow senior Joe Dorn to capture the doubles title. The team title was the first for the program since 1981. Wood and his teammates had gotten close to capturing a national championship in recent years, including a loss on their home court to Amherst in last year’s final.

“It's been a long road,” Wood said. “Two years in the finals and not quite getting there – especially at home last year – that really pushed us this year.”
