Ed,
The root issue is definitely about disclosure with the NCAA, but it's systemic, not only limited to "press releases" about what "they" do.
Refer to Infante's recently penned an article called "Tip of the Iceberg". Please note the NCAA chooses freely, selectively, and arbitrarily regarding what "case precedent" and what "interpretations" to make available to other member institutions searching the database. Can you imagine the legal system hiding the facts and verdicts of all cases they would prefer others not to know about?

The problem here is about disclosure, or the lack thereof. The NCAA does not disclose enough about its actions to prevent the wild speculation about what it is they actually do. That seems to be the root issue here.

You post definitely expresses your frustration about Nocera himself, but it would be helpful to hear specifically what your response is to the issues he raises. Nocera cites multiple examples of students being penalized in ways that seem arbitrary and harmful. Does NCAA see that the situation described and corrected by Nocera appears penalize a mother-student-athlete for childcare?

Thanks
